Firmware 1.31 and SharePort 1.10
« on: April 28, 2009, 10:53:28 PM »

Dear Dlink,

Thank you very much for 1.31! I hope it'll be the firmware we all have been looking for.

1. Advanced DNS is documented, although I would wanted to have explicit reference to Private OpenDNS.
It would completely clarify what this is, in addition adding a good point to Dlink who specifically obtained it from OpenDNS for the customers ;) (FAQ would be a good place for that)

2. SharePort 1.10 does work just fine with Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

3. SharePort 1.10 DOESN'T WORK with Vista Ultimate 64 bit out of box. It took me a complete reinstall on Vista, soft reset of the router, a usb printer reconnect, and last, not least setting the broadcast ip to 192.168.0.255 in the SharePort Options and the router set to enable multicast streams.

4. Performance and stability is fine so far.

In summary, 1.31 is the worthy upgrade, but SharePort 1.10 requires some work for Vista 64 bit.

Thanks a lot!

ADDED 05/04/09:

1. Status page doesn't show static ip machines present, only ones with dynamic ip are shown!
2. Wireless drops a lot of packets, had 1 disconnect since the day 1.31 was released. However, it's much better than before and generally acceptable for now.

If I were DLink, I would concentrate on first fixing SharePort utility for Vista x64, and then releasing bug fix only firmware. I consider 1.31 a stabilization release. Next ones should be mostly bug fixes - no more new features parade till most obvious problems are fixed, please!

Might I suggest waterboarding? Haha.

I think we should not be so suspicious. Doubting Dlink equals doubting OpenDNS for providing a secure DNS IP. And I have not yet seen any suspicious considerations concerning the public OpenDNS servers...

I did notice that the DNS IP is somewhat slower than the regular OpenDNS IP's.

There are FAQ's regarding Advanced DNS.

Great! I walked through the Advanced DNS FAQ and it appears to be very decent.

This firmware changes entire mood of the public, developers' and customers' alike!  :)

Just 2 more requests, please:

1. Fix SharePort utility for Vista 64 bit (hardware A2 is definitely effected, maybe some others)
2. Unlock arbalet user - it's me edinorog. I have to use Tor to see the forum   >:( Please!

A minor note: My VMWare 6.5.2 Workstation virtual machine of Ubuntu 9.04 32 bit today could not see the sourceforge.net, but all other sites were OK. I mean Firefox on Ubuntu 9.4. It could be Advnced DNS that I use at the moment. Some people mentioned these quirks are possible...

From what i can read, i'm glad to see that d-link have finally got a decent update for the 655. It took a while hopefully it's worth the wait! I've got the A2 version. Are we able to revert back to older updates just in case? How's the wireless on this version compared to the 1.11 version?

Wireless is working flawless here with intel 3945ABG/XP and atheros 802.11BGN (azurewave aw-ne771)/XP.
Only problem here with Fw1.30 & 1.31 + Sp1.10 is disconnecting aiptek/waltop c_raphic tablet. It works ok about one day and then it just stop working. Shareport say its connected, but it just wont work. If i disconnect it from shareport and try to connect to it again it wont connet to it, only say its available. It may connect again, but it works like few seconds and same thing.. Not working. Only solution to this is boot the router, and after this it works ok for some time again. So router reboot is must at least once a day and thats frustrating, especially if it do this when you are just drawing something.

Good to hear! Thank you for the quick answer! Is it possible to revert back to older updates just in case i don't like it?

Wireless is the same, no changes noticeable.
Nobody has the ability to downgrade below 1.3x.

Same problem with SharePort and Vista x64.  One day D-Link QA will test their products for every operating system they are releasing for.  I find it hard to imagine how such a glaring bug could have gotten through if they had actually taken the time to think "Hey, you know how we just updated the firmware and shareport utility?  Let's make sure it works on all of the systems we are releasing it for like a responsible vendor."

Did you have the previous version of shareport installed?
Have you tried installing the newer version for the updated firmware?

My experience: Installing Shareport 1.10 while 1.14 is still active/present resulted in non-functional 1.10 after flashing to 1.31. Removing both and reinstalling produced a smoothly working Shareport 1.10 (on Vista x86 and W7 RC x64).
