DIR-615 Revision H2 ipv6 problems
« on: February 07, 2013, 03:45:50 PM »

Hy,

I just bought a new dir-615 revision h2 firmware 8.04b2 and I have many problems when then I try to use  IPv6 protocol over pppoe. When ipv6 it's active over pppoe connections I recieved connections time out from some sites in browser but other sites are going well. I also tried using Google DNS for ipv4& ipv6 but the problem persist.

The only solution is to disable ipv6 from router so I can access all websites.

When I connect the internet cable directly in my computer without router the ipv6 works fine.

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Has a Factory Reset been performed?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
Check with your ISP to see what MTU value should be set on the router.

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn OFF DNS Relay under Setup/Networking and input manual DNS ISP addresses.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set Time and Time Zone under Tools/Time.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

I used ipv6 opendns: 2620:0:ccc::2  AND 2620:0:ccd::2 Works fine for exactly five minutes when connections timeout for all websites accesed.

Maybe my internet provider ( www.rcs-rds.ro) is not so good in  ipv6 protocols. I use  utp cable connections via pppoe.

If you disable IPv6, does everything work correctly then?

I would contact your ISP and ask them if they support IPv6.

Yes; when I disable IPV6 the router works correctly on IPV4. I open a ticket on my ISP because when i connect directly without router i have ipv6 on my desktop. My ISP offers IPv6 support.

Try using iSP DNS first to see if this helps.

I used default dns from isp but the problems persist.
Today a representative from ISP  came to my house and told me that since the direct  ipv6 pppoe  connection with desktop works my router is broken. I don't believe these lies and I'm sure it's a problem with their servers. If the router was broken should not go with ipv4.

This could be a configuration issue with the router. If it does work directly with your PC connected to there modem and it fails at some point with while using the router, this points to the router.

When you use the 615, is the PPPoE connected ON the 615? Also is ALWAYS ON selected if your using the 615 under Setup/Internet/Manual/Connection Type?

Now I understand what the full problem is: when ipv6 is active on router I cant access ipv4 sites. Works only ipv6 and dual stack sites.

I'll pass this along however you need to directly phone contact DLink support, ask for level 3 I think and tell them that this seems to be problem. Rev H's are not sold in North America and would probably get much help here. Please contact your regional DLink support office and let us know how it goes.

Maybe the problem is, that the installed firmware of your DIR-615 only allows to configure a seperate PPPoE session for use with IPv6 -- besides the one you use for IPv4. This only works if your Provider supports two simultaneous PPPoE sessions, one for IPv4 and one for IPv6  (ask your ISP for this).

The other choice is to negotiate both IPv4 and IPv6 within one single PPPoE session only. I guess this is what your ISP supports. So the problem is, that your DIR-615 firmware doesn't allow you to configure this.

I use a DIR-825 device and with a former firmware version it looked the same as with your DIR-615. With a later firmware version for my device D-Link provided the option to select between two modes after having selected "PPPoE session": Either use "Share with IPv4" (where you don't have to reenter your PPP user credentials) or use "Create a new session" (where you have to enter the same or different PPP user credentials for the second PPPoE session used for IPv6). So ask D-Link for a firmware update for your device that yields this selection function.

PacketTracer you're right. I've attached a screenshot of the configuration meniu for dir-825  that works without problme in my isp network. It can be seen that the PPPoE Sessions for ipv6 is:  Share with IPv4.
I hope that d-link will brings this function in new firmware version for dir-615.
