Just an info for those of you who need subtitle support. Unfortunately DNS-320L built-in DLNA media player does not support subtitles but there's a solution for that.

I installed miniDLNA v1.0.25 (under fun_plug 0.7) from mz's repository and this version of miniDLNA supports subtitles. Officially, as of version 1.0.20 miniDLNA is supposed to support subtitles for LG TV and LG BluRay players and I can confirm that it does work on my DNS-320L and LG 47LD650 TV.

Even more, miniDLNA media server makes index of audio/video/picture files on my disk several times (maybe even 20 times) quicker than original media server. Indexing operation was taking several hours or even days before, now it takes minutes. So even if you do not need subtitles, taking into account this quicker indexing, it could be a good reason for trying miniDLNA.

Just a hint for those of you who intend to install miniDLNA - it requires the following libraries (so install them before miniDLNA installation):

• EXIF support - libexif-0.6.20-arm-1
• JPEG support - libjpeg-8c-arm-1
• SQLite3 db - sqlite3071401-arm-1
• ID3 Tag support - libid3tag-0.15.1b-arm-1
• FLAC support - flac-1.2.1-arm-1
• OGG support - libogg-1.3.0-arm-1
• Vorbis support - libvorbis-1.3.3-arm-1

before starting it (manually or by restarting NAS) you have to change settings in /ffp/etc/minidlna.conf file.

Have you compared miniDLNA with Twonky for NAS? I have this one and runs fine. However, I can't have movie covers, and don't like folder distribution...
Is there a tutorial for installation?

No, I haven't tried Twonky yet but probably I will soon. Then I could give a small comparison between them.

Regarding media covers I didn't even know that DLNA mediaservers show covers instead of folder icons. Now I'm interested in that. However that's what miniDLNA says about covers;

MiniDLNA is aimed for small devices, so doesn't generate movie thumbnails to lower CPU load and DB built time. It uses either thumbs in the same folder with movie if any, or extracts them where present from media containers like MP4 or MKV with embedded Album Art tags, but not AVI. One can add thumbs (JPG 160x160 pxl or less) to media folders with a Thumbnail Maker, and miniDLNA will link them to media files after rescan. Larger thumbs will be resized and stored in Media_DB that slows scan. At one movie per folder, follow thumb naming rules in minidlna.conf.

In minidlna.conf there's an option "album_art_names" defining what names for covers should be used in order to be taken by miniDLNA as album covers.

Hello,

I installed miniDLNA on my 320L NAS as an addon (see http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=61326.0) but as far as i know there's no support for subtitles this way.
Should I try this approach and install miniDLNA as a fun_plug package following the instructions on this thread?
Could someone please help me obtaining this result (i.e. uninstall the current add-on, getting the correct files for the package, installing it, etc)?

Some additional infos:
right now I use miniDLNA add-on to stream videos to a mediacenter-kind-of app on my Android tablet (the app is called Mizuu) but subtitles on same folder & same name as video don't appear on player.
I already set up fun_plug 0.7

I don't know you app, but minidlna sure supports the subtitles, both as an fpp instalation and as add-on,on the TV player. But I have an Homemedia app for my Android devices and is also do not supports subtitles - maybe it is a problem of Android itself?
