Unable to open status pages
« on: February 21, 2013, 02:26:10 AM »

Hi all,

I have a DIR-825 Hardware Version: B1   Firmware Version: 2.06EU.

When I try to open any status page, I receive a 'page cannot be displayed' or 'can't connect' from  my browser.

tried a reboot, updated router to the latest firmware, still no result.

what to do next ?

Link>Welcome!

What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

Try testing with a different device.

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.

Hi,

I live in the Netherlands, and just tried several things....

different PC's, different OS, no firewalls or AV etc.
wired and wireless.

When I do a factory default, I'm able to open al pages again,
but when I restore my config (which is quite a lot) it doesnt work anymore.

any advise ?

it has been working for a couple of months, without any glitch.
it just happened without any changes.

I presume that your config file is probably corrupt or something with in that file is causing the problem.

I recommend that you factor rest the router and set up the router from scratch, with out loading the config file. After the router is set up once again, do a new save configuration to file to make a new and fresh file.

And after using each of of these, the UI become inaccessible after saving the configuration?
I would use IE or FF for this.

How and what are you configuring on the router?
Are you going thru and setting up the various settings and using the Save and Reboot Later option or are you saving and rebooting after making each change?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing. Disconnect the ISP LAN cable from the WAN port while setting up the router to test this. If you can get one PC to configure some settings and set up a reservation for the 1 PC, and it reboots and you can continue accessing the router, add the next device. Keep graduating adding devices.

Was a factory reset performed both before and after the FW update was performed?

See below:

- no, it does not become inaccessible after saving config, only while opening status pages, for example, IPv6 status.

How and what are you configuring on the router?
Are you going thru and setting up the various settings and using the Save and Reboot Later option or are you saving and rebooting after making each change?
- Saving and rebooting after each config.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
- used PC with firewall disabled. removed AV software.
- mac has no firewall neither AV software.

- with only one pc connected wired, removed WAN cable, still not able to open these pages, even after rebooting the router

Was a factory reset performed both before and after the FW update was performed?
- I did a factory reset before upgrade,
and some hours ago as you suggested.

I'm running out of options,
same settings were working fine a couple of months ago.
just regular settings as I used on my older DIR-655 too (except IPv6 features).

just found something,
makes it more strange...
when changing IPv6 settings from ipv6 in ipv4 tunnel to link-local only,
I'm able to access these settings.

changing them back, and it looks broken again....

Is your ISP supporting IPv6 at this time?

Nope, my ISP isnt supporting IPv6 yet,

Thats why I use an IPv6 tunnel from a tunnelbroker.

FYI, I'm working for this ISP (Ziggo NL) myself, as a Eurodocsis System Specialist.
I'm quite familiar with routers and cablemodems.

Kewl.

I presume there is an issue when you attempt to configure IPv6 on this router.
Odd that if your trying to configure tunneling with a broker, it's causing the router UI to become inaccessible. Possible mis configuration maybe.

What is the current IPv6 setting under Setup/IPv6. I think it should be Local Only since your ISP isn't supporting IPv6 natively yet.

yeah, looks like.

only one strange thing. I was running this config for months without issues.
problem just came out of nowhere, didn't make any changes.

do you have one of these routers yourself ? maybe you can reproduce the issue when using my config ?
