Greetings!

I'll start with the usual infos:

Hardware Version : A1
Firmware Version : 1.03
Region Germany
Connection type: wired and wireless

I tried to plug in a 32gb usb stick to test the dlna capabilities. After i updated the firmware and did a factory reset, everything seemed to be fine, i was able to playback mp3-files via bubble-upnp on my Asus TF201. I simply had to choose the DIR 645 as the device and the TF201 (to be more accurate: the app) as the renderer. But as soon as i copy flac-files onto the usb stick (either via lan and manually via usb-transfer), the upnp Player can't find these flac-aufio files.

So right now i'm wondering who's the villain: the android-app or the router itself?

I can easily access (and render) those flac files with my pc (vlc/foobar), but there's no trace of them when i'm using a upnp player on android. I think that this "error" occurs too on the pc when i'm using the wmp as a renderer.

Is this a "dlna server" issue? Are there requirements to the flac files which may not be fulfilled? Did i miss something?

If you put the FLAC Files on your PC and if you can connect to the PC with the Android app, does the app see the files while stored on the PC? I presume this can be tested on the PC?

I presume since that you can view those FLAC files from the USB drive connected to the 645 on the PC using VLC or FOOBAR that the PC and 645 are working well. This starts to point to the direction of the Android app being the problem maybe.

As soon as i get home, i'm going to start my twonky server on the pc and check if the bubble-upnp player will accept the flac files from there.

So, from your point of view, there are no restrictions to playback flac files from the dir 645 by dlna?

I presume there isn't or shouldn't me any problems with FLAC files being placed on a drive connected to the 645. The 645 is just a I/O interface between the drive and connecting client devices. I would think if there is any specific file format compatibility or problems, it would arise at the application layer level and what the viewer programs officially support and are capable of handling.

Yes, that's the thing. A MP3-Album works just fine.

I presume that if FLAC is viewed correctly from other devices and it's not on the Android, possible problem with this app. 

Let us know how viewing FLAC files from your PC works out.

Well thats weird... "Version: Twonky 7.1.2" works perfectly fine. Folders/Names are shown correctly. It seems it's not app-related. Where's the difference?

Since i did a factory reset yesterday, i doubt there's something wrong in the settings, however: which settings could lead to this problem?

EDIT: to avoid misunderstanding:

i started twonky on my pc, marked the "flac-album" folder as shared in the twonky settings, and then chose this twonky server in the android app -> everything was working as is should.

EDIT2: Huh... As suspected: the WMP can't access the files (not even the mp3) from the router, twonky works fine with the wmp.

What version of Windows are you using?

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit.

But as i mentioned earlier, accessing the files by the network drive which was created by SP and using foobar/vlc works fine.

So i think the problem lies somewhere within the "dlna" functionality.

As I understand it, when you plug a USB into the router, your basically creating a file server. Then the router uses DLNA to allow access to that server from different apps. That file server only supports specific media types though. Check out this support page for info. If your looking for lossless audio, might want to copy the files and try lossless .aac.

Thanks for your advice! So far i didn't try the d link app itself. As far as i can see, it just accesses the storage since this app only supports up& downloading files from/to your android device.

In this matter, "Shareport mobile" should not be compared with a upnp player. It's more likely an app to access the network drive.

The link you suggested is referring to this mobile app, not the router-dlna-capabilities itself.

Pretty sure its referring to the Shareport itself, but as you said, in context of the shareport app. Does it fit your symptom? Another words, can you see all the files in that list, and none of the files not in the list? If you connect a NAS or a computer set up to file share, does it work then with FLAC? If so, the difference would be the USB (AKA Shareport) so I think that page would be relevant. If not, I have no other ideas.

Unfortunately i think you're right. I pasted a wav-album which was shown correctly, an aac-album was as least detected, but the playback didn't work which might be app-related.

WMP still doesn't work, but since i won't be using this program, it doesn't really matter.

I sent an e-mail to the d-link support to make sure your assumption is right.

Can't say i'm really pleased about this but at least now i know what's going on, as soon as i get confirmation, i'll tell you guys. Thanks for your help!

Looking around google I saw other threads and links.

Official DLNA certificate.

A technical break down of DLNA and how it relates to UPnP AV. Including a suggestion to use LPCM, AKA L16.

And another Dlink thread showing other Dlink DLNA certified product not support FLAC, so I think "FLAC support" is a feature of DLNA implantation because of the way FLAC is compliled and issues with the file tags.

There might be some way of changing the files somehow so they can be read. You might try AVSforums.com. There are some hardcore audio experts there that might be able to help. Good luck.
