Hey guys,

New to the forum and I am stuck for ideas on how to proceed with this issue.

Here are my modem/routers stats
Model: DSL-2740BR
Serial Number: QQ0E1BA002468
Hardware Version: F1
Firmware Version: AU_2.07

Ok, so here is my situation. I am using this modem router which has a NAS connected to it and my desktop PC so they are taking up two LAN ports. I also have another LAN port connected to a TP-Link Gigabit Switch and connected to the switch are my PS3, Foxtel (Cable TV), Panasonic Viera TH-P50ST50A and my Panasonic Blu Ray player DMP-BDT220. This was all working fine until a week ago when I tried to connect to my NAS on the Viera TV and there was no connection. I tried on the Blu Ray player and still no connection.

I checked the switch and the two ports the blu ray player and th tv were connected to no longer light up. I tried the PS3 and the Cable box in these ports and they connected straight away.

So when I try and connect the TV or blu ray player it says that it can see the home network but fails in acquiring an ip.

I am convinced that something on the modem router is blocking the connection for both Panasonic products as I am able to connect my desktop, ps3, cable box and many other electronic devices to the network.

I am hoping someone can help me trouble shoot what could be the problem as I have tried resetting the device by holding the reset button for 10 seconds but this has not helped.

Remove the switch and connect the TV or Blu Ray player to the Modem and see if they can see each other?

If you connect the NAS to the switch along with the rest of the wired devices, do they see the NAS at all?

Check your switch for fault. Try a different switch. I recommend using switches as much as possible. I would put the PC and NAS on one switch and then put another switch off that one like a daisy chain. Helps to isolate the modem from any un-necessary processing while still giving internet connections.

I will try connecting straight to the modem directly.

Right now the PS3 can see the NAS from the switch so there is definitely a connection that can be seen there.

Just out of curiosity, would the switch give out its own IP's?

I only ask because I checked the settings on the TV and the IP address started with 168 where as the ip address range of the router starts with 192

unless its a managed switch, no, most switches are just pass thru devices.

Also check cabling as well. I recommend CAT 6 LAN cables.

All Lan cables used on devices and through the walls of the house are Cat6.

Will report results later today when I have tested.

Ok, so an update.

Removed the blu ray player and connected it to the LAN port in my bedroom and connected straight away. It found my NAS and also performed a firmware update. So clearly it is not the device that is the issue.

I then connected the Blu Ray player to the LAN port in the living room which goes direct to the router and it failed to find the network. This is the same port the switch is connected to. I am now thinking that the issue is with the cabling in the wall for that port so will try a new cable from the router to the tv and the blu ray player. If both connect I will then plug that cable to the switch and see if all devices connect.

Just weird that the PS3 and Cable box still connect via the switch so clearly there is still some activity on the cable in the wall.

Will post back results.

Yes. It was an issue with the LAN cable running through the walls. I realised that I did not actually have a LAN connection to the PS3 but it was connected via Wi-Fi giving me the impression that the cable and switch were fine.

I replaced the cable in the wall with another Cat6 and all is working perfectly again.
