Let us know the exact model of the modem when you can.
********** I think modem model number is a GT701D
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel. Try Traffic Shaping ON as well.
*********** QoS was not enabled when I started....Where do I find Traffic Shaping and Game fuel options?
Turn on Traffic Shaping under Advanced/QoS. This model router will not have Gamefuel.Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
*************I don't have this option.
Check under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
**************It was already on
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
************Set up.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
************Where do I do this
Need to refer the Mfr instructions on any network settings or control panel settings having to deal with IP addressing. Each device maybe different on how it's configured with Network settigns. If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
************ changed setting to Link-Local only
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
***********Changed to endpoint independent, they were both port and address restricted before
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
***********they were both already enabled
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router.
was set to auto 10/100/1000 changed to 1000
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.
Done
When I do a speed test now I am getting about 4.5 Mbps down and .15Mbps up according to speedtest on the 2 machines that are plugged in.
On the wireless machine I am getting about 0.5 Mbps down and 0.15Mbps up according to speed test.
However when I actually use the internet it is as slow as could be, almost to the point of being unusuable. Also I don't find the machines that are plugged in any faster at all when using the internet even though the speed test indicates I am getting 9x faster download speeds...
Are these wired LAN computers or wireless? Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.
