Local Backup
« on: March 06, 2013, 04:41:16 PM »

Am trying to setup a local backup so I can backup PC files to the NAS via the local LAN.

No matter how I try to configure the settings the TEST always fails with
File Size Unavailable.

Have tried this with Win8 and XP PCs (both 32bit). Have shared the drive and folders for test purposes., Have checked the firewalls etc etc.
There is no indication of what protocol the NAS would use to connect to the Windows file system so I have no idea if I need to (or what to) allow through the firewall if that is the problem. However the windows firewalls show no indication that they are rejecting connections.

The online sidebar tips in the NAS are no use in resolving this, nor is the Manual.

It appears other users have managed to make this work so would someone please help me out.

Thanks

When the source data resides on another storage device external to the NAS, the "File Size Unavailable" message is normal. Usually, I receive the message TEST successful and "File Size Unavailable" and the backup job works.
