Torrent Issues --> DNS Issues
« on: May 02, 2009, 12:04:34 PM »

Hey,

I'll keep the story brief.

If I start a bit torrent client; a few seconds later I am unable to browse the net.
The only page I can access is the 192.168.0.1.

Through the ping utility, I am still able to ping google, etc, but not browse to them.

Current setup:

DSL ---> DSL Modem (Netopia 3347DWG) ---> DIR-825 --(Wired)--> PC

I used to be plugged into the Netopia modem (It has a built in switch), and it worked flawlessly.

I'd also like to mention, the only way I can browse the net again, is if I reacquire my IP (Ipconfig /release, /renew), or reboot the modem.

It does sound like you narrowed it down to the router.

Out of curiosity... is the web admin IP address for your DSL modem different than your router?  MAKE SURE IT IS!!!  If 192.168.0.1 logs you into your modem WITHOUT the router hooked up, you'll want to change your routers web admin IP to say... 192.168.1.1  (I did that to mine because I was used to it from the Linksys way)

Make sure your running firmware 1.01 (NOT 1.1 beta). http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DIR-825 If not, upgrade to that, restore factory defaults on the router.  Config to your liking.  Open ports for BitTorrent.  You should be good to go.  I download a few gigs off of BT yesterday, the 825 works flawlessly!  Better with 1.01.  Better than my Linksys WRT54G v3.1 with DD-WRT firmware.

Actually thats a double NAT and that in and of itself can cause problems with BT and other things. It's reccomnded that you have the modem bridged if its not currently.
