Need FTP setup assistance.
« on: March 10, 2013, 07:13:10 PM »

Running DCS932L on Win7, I can see video locally and via the internet.  Updated firmware to latest and everything seems to be working just fine.

I use the program "CuteFTP"  (and others) often, and have no trouble setting up the parameters to each account I support.

I cannot get the DCS932L FTP function to connect to known good web server hosting accounts.  It does not look that complicated - I must be missing the obvious.

Is there a published (step by step) guide available?  I have read all 18 pages of this forum.  Can somebody "step" me thru this?

TIA

What FTP server are you using? Give a link to the service.

I build web sites for businesses.  To host them, I buy reseller hosting from several providers - like 1and1, but NOT 1and1.
To keep down too much public awareness, I can Private Message you the ip address, username and password of one of the sites - if you allow...

I am still sorting out the features and settings at the camera level as well as the dviewcam level. Still not sure about all this capability, and how to use it...

Right now, this post is about me setting the FTP Server settings at the camera level.  I am connecting to the camera directly - ie 10.0.1.xx:xxxx (or through my external ip address).  In both cases, I try to test the ftp connection (using the camera setup FTP test) and am not successful.

1) know, the address of a host FTP hosting from providers (example ftp.1and1.com)
2) registration data
3) configure FTP work
I tried to do that, it works.

Thank You!

(That's exactly how I set it up.  But, the reseller hosting server I picked did not accept these settings.  So, I picked another server and all is well now.  Your confirmation that I was correct sent me in a different direction to solve my problem.  I was stuck in that old "rut".)

At first I started getting way too many pictures uploaded.  Setting the sensitivity to 5% and limiting the area to the inside 9 squares gave me exactly what I need.

Again, THANKS!!

Since this is my thread, I hope I'm not out of order...

I use Reseller Hosting.  Google "Web Hosting Talk" forum.  Dig down to where they list Reseller offers.

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1246232&highlight=Hostient
should give you a start.

Look around, the prices vary widely.

PM me for the ones I use.

Mods:  If I stepped over the line, please excuse me and kill this reply.  I am NOT affiliated, in any way with WHT or any advertiser there (except as a paying customer).

Thanks, not sure I'll be able to access that domain from work :(

I was using Yahoo! webhosting, but they just flipped their regular FTP to ONLY FTPS...  so that won't work anymore with the dlink software.

I cannot get FTP to work either.

I've been using FTP on the ARPAnet/Internet since 1979 so I understand FTP pretty well.

I have a ProFTPd running on a linux server.  I've set up an account for the camera.  From an ordinary command line FTP client, I can login to the server and transfer files with no problem.

However, from the camera, with it configured properly (as far as I can tell), I get the following diagnostics:

1. In the Status section under Device Info I get: "Can not connect to FTP server."
2. With extended diagnostics turned on in the server, I see that the camera sends a hello, and then a quit.  So it is clearly getting connected, but it never seems to attempt to send a file.

Is there another place I can get more detailed diagnostics from the camera?

I'm really interested in a good and reasonably priced FTP site to upload motion events. Have looked at specialized ones like Sensr but seems pricey. Any reasonably priced suggestions? Just want to be able to retrieve videos and store them with periodic deletion. Each week would be OK.

Are you using a leading /with/subfolders?
Have certain special characters in your password that are causing problems?
