DIR-825 and DWA-160 2.4GHz problems

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to what my problem is.  I've just bought a DWA-160 and have it connected to a DIR-825 router.  I am getting 3 bars with the 5.0GHz signal and 4-5 bars with the 2.4GHz band.  Both are of course 802.11n.

My problem is that when I try to use the 2.4GHz signal, I am getting speeds of 3Mb/s and under and with the weaker signaled 5.0GHz band, I'm getting around 20Mb/s. Is there a setting that could be out of wack on either my router or my DWA-160?

Interference maybe? Do you have a 2.4Ghz cordless phone nearby or other equipment working in that band? For example when I use my microwave, I completely lose my connection. Also it could be you picked a busy channel, try changing the channel selection on your router.

We do have a wireless phone system, dont know what frequency it's using.  Would that make sense even though the registered signal strength on my PC is almost always 5 bars?  When I moved from G to draft N, the average signal strength went up by 2 bars, but the actual down speed that im getting is about the same.

Signal strength and interference are 2 different things. It is possible to have high signal strength but if the interfering signal is strong enough, it can cause transmission corruption and thus dropped packets and degraded rates. You can try to unplug all the phones and their bases and see if that improves things. Also download netstumbler and run a scan to see if some channels are congested possibly by neighbouring APs.
