Windows Home Pro and DNS-323 networking issues
« on: March 13, 2013, 09:18:25 PM »

Hi all,

First time poster here so first of all, thanks for this forum and any help in advance.

I actually have 2 issues.  A friend of mine has a Dlink DNS-323 which he is on his home network.  We would like to use the Windows Backup program incorporated into W7 Home pro.  The problem is that when I start the wizard, the 323 isn't an option.  So I went into the security properties for the 323 and get an access is denied message whenever I want to change the 'everyone' group to full control.

I'm sure there is a way to perform regular backups with the software included with the device, but we don't have the disk and the only program I could find to download is the Easy Search program, which recognizes the 323, but I don't know what to do from there.  We have found, downloaded, and read the manual, but being novices (willing to learn of course!), have no idea how to decipher the steps.  What we have tried has not worked.

If anyone can help us past the access denied issue, or can give us step by step instructions to set up incremental backups using the Easy Search program, we'd sure appreciate it.

Again, thanks in advance for your assistance.

Click on the Applications tab of the web interface login screen.  This should bring you to the scheduled backups screen on which you can, as it says, schedule backups.

I would advise testing the URL to check you have it right before saving settings.

Thanks for the help so far and sorry for the delay.  I was out of town

Use UNC to specify what you wish to backup, for example. //serverip/sharename

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

We just want to backup the C drive of his computer, so in the url box, we put the url of the 323 and use UNC to specify the folder, correct?
