Wifi performances when used as an Access Point + Switch
« on: April 02, 2013, 01:10:49 AM »

Hi,

I would like to use the DAP-1522 as an Access Point (wired to my router). My two concerns are:

Can the 3 remaining ethernet ports be used to wirely connect to local PCs (so the DAP-1522 also acts as a switch) ?

In case answer to the previous is yes, would it affect the performances of the wifi ?

Thanks for you help.

Yes the LAN ports are available for you and no, if you connect wired devices to the LAN ports, will not affect Wifi performance. Other external conditions in you area can though.

NoCNo, did you end up trying this?

I want to do the same thing.   Ranch style 1 story home and my ISP Provided Router's Wireless is flakey on the far side of the house.  I have 1 CAT5 drop run over there already and was hoping to use the 1522 (or 1533) to act as a WAP for the far side of the house and also a switch so my existing wired device can still be wired.

I just wanted to be sure this actually works before I pull the trigger.

It should work very well for you. I use a similar set up with a different AP and the LAN ports in back are active and usable since they are on the LAN side of the network.

Let us know how it works for you.
