DDNS - Enable in camera or router or both?

The D-Link IP cameras (at least most of them) include a built-in DDNS feature as do typical routers. If I want to use this feature should I enable it at the camera or at the router or both? Is the WAN address passed correctly to the DDNS server if enabled at the camera only even though the camera operates in private LAN and is not even aware of the public WAN IP address?
