What determines the fps?
« on: April 07, 2013, 04:15:54 PM »

I have 3 cameras on right now and they read 1fps, 3fps, and 5fps. They vary too.  So my question is what determines the frame rate. The low frame rate is the reason motion detection misses a lot of activity. You walk by fast and you are not picked up.

The camera resolution under SETUP > Video will determine the maximum FPS. Other factors that will invariably impact actual FPS are all network related:

  • Viewing live video over mydlink will have a lower FPS than via LAN
  • Viewing video by multiple people on the same LAN will impact throughput
  • Wireless vs. wireless
  • LAN cable quality
  • Other network traffic

But that maximum FPS is not using by e-mail and FTP settings with motion detection.
Then it pushes away as much as it can, flooding the FTP-server :-(
