DNS 320 in a bit off a mess......
« on: April 09, 2013, 01:34:27 PM »

Hi,

Purchased a 320 over the weekend and was keen to play, ie, installed fun plug, and then went onto install Transmission, as per the tutorial below.

http://www.klseet.com/index.php/d-link-dns-320-nas/173

Basically on doing this, re-booted the 320 which left me with basically a useless front end.  After allot of google'ing, I've re-installed the firmware 2.03 but I now find myself in a situation where I can only access the Management Tab, on clicking 'Applications' or 'Home' basically freezes the unit and I have to re-login.

Getting a bit stuck now, anyone with any advice would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks allot
Rich

Does anyone no if the firmware 2.03 upgrade comes with the apps and the rest built in, or do I need to start from scratch and install the very first build for example??? Clutching at straws really here!!

If so where doin find that!?

Cheers

The firmware upgrade should not adversely impact your current DNS-320 implementations/settings.

I failed to see how installing Fonz Fun_plug (FFP) will in anyway affect the NAS webUI. Perhaps you want to "uninstall" FFP by removing ffp folder and funplug file.

You should also check that there is no problem with the HDD(s) installed in the NAS.
When my HDD died, the first symptoms where that the NAS would freeze randomly, but when i took out the HDD everything worked correctly.

gillettos, have you used the reset to factory defaults with the reset button at the back, and if so did that help?

Hi, in answer to the above, tried to re-format the hard drive and it failed.  Take the hard rive out an boot it up so it's just a shell, results in a totally Un operational webGU.  And yes tried the reset more than once, to no avail...

Thanks

Did you just do a standard reset - press for less than 5 seconds - or a 'reset to factory defaults' reset - press for 5 or more seconds - both done with the power on of course?

You may have to wipe the drives to 'as new' condition if they are left in 'dirty' state before you can format them again.

One other thing, this unit did work correctly when you first got it?

Yeh a full factory reset, more than 5 seconds.

Why did work before, that's mainly why I know there's a problem, ie missing all the applications!

How do I put the hard drives into a as knew state??

Cheers

To put the drives into the as new state you need to be able to connect them to a PC and use either the manufacturers disk tools or a program like DFSEE  http://www.dfsee.com/ (a disk manipulation program that will work with several operating systems, the evaluation version is free and fully functional) and replace the MBR.
