Web interface not showing anything
« on: April 24, 2013, 07:54:22 AM »

Hi guys!

I have a strange problem With the web Interface on my DNS-325 Sharecenter Shadow. The login screen is presented ok when i enter 192.168.1.xxx in my browser, and i am able to log in. Once logged in, i see the usual 3 options "Home, Applications, and Management", as well as the Home submenus "My folder and My Favorite Applications". However, none of the menus are clickable, and the My folder and My Favorite Applications are not populated (as in: there is nothing there!). I am still able to restart or shut Down the Nas using the button at the top right corner NeXT to the [Log Out] button. The Nas is mapped and is working perfectly fine...

Does anyone have any idea why i can't use the web Interface?

Thanks!

What browser are you using?  Try IE and Firefox.

Thanks for the very quick response!:)

I have tried both IE and Firefox.
I have a Linksys EA4500 (used for WiFI and Connection to the NAS) connected to a Zyxel P-2812 modem/router in bridgemode (due to ISP requirements), if this helps at all.

I'm going to assume that you were previously were able to access the full web UI since you have a history of other posts. My next thought is to perform a factory reset, which will erase all user settings, but should not impact your HDD configurations or stored data.

I'm going to also assume that you don't have access to the factory reset option within the web UI, since that also requires that the web UI is working. To perform a factory reset without the web UI: while the DNS-325 is powered up, press and hold the reset button on the back of the unit for > 8 seconds.

Yes i was able to Access it before. I've been using Win 8 for a couple of months now. Not sure if i have tried to Access the web Interface since i migrated from Win 7 to 8.
You are right, i cannot Access reset in web UI. It is vital that the data on the drives are not effected by the reset, are you sure it won't be effected?
Also, what will happen when i do a reset? Will i have to reinstall firmware updates? Will i have to map the Nas again?

Again, thanks for Your help!

You raised an important point.  .  . Can you test the web UI from a Win7 machine since you may not have used it on Win8?  My thought is that Win8 is blocking something.  I would do that before performing any reset.

The reset will remove ALL user settings:  user accounts, shared directories, maps, scheduled backup jobs, etc.  The latest firmware will stay there, but with no user configuration.

As I recommend to everyone, despite the fact that a factory reset is designed to NOT impact HDD configuration and data, you should always maintain a separate physical backup of your data before performing any maintenance on your NAS.

As an addendum to my last post. If you are unable to access the web URL from another PC running Windows 7, here's a thread describing the factory default procedure: DNS ShareCenter - Restoring Factory Default Settings

in win8 using the IE browser, click on the little broken glass symbol in the address bar when you are on the dns325 and see if you can then get to everything. I have the same thing if i don't click it. its called Compatability View and will be blue if it is enabled.

I see that lol. didn't type fast enough. i use the photo app a lot and have put hundreds of my family photos there now. works fairly well. there are newer versions of it but I haven't figured out how to upgrade yet but am looking in to that. to get to it directly you just add /gallery2/ at the end of your dns325 address. look into setting up a ddns link if you haven't done that yet. that way you can set up an easy name to remember and it will make it easier if you share it.

Tried the photo app and got it working after upgrading to v.2.2. Anyway, it didnt upload all photos. I Guess there is som kind of bug.
Anyway i trid the mydlinkcloud stuff - havent really figured out exactly what it is yet:) But the mydlinkcloud sync looked really good actually. However i struggle to see the point... its just a map which is synced With a map on the Nas - just like the actual Nas itself which is a mapped drive, and can be accessed thru the ddns.
Have you tried it, and what are Your thought about the use of this cloudsync?
