I have just set up a new DIR-645 in AP mode. Whenever I set up a new wireless AP I always apply MAC filtering. I've noticed with this device that the MAC filtering not only controls what devices can make a wi-fi connection to the router, but also which PCs on the LAN can access the admin web interface.

I've never seen that before on any APs and it's not desirable behaviour in my view. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a workaround or is this normal behaviour for D-Link devices?

Also the behavior of the router working in AP mode using the features will change and most of the features of this router should not be used while in AP mode as they are designed to working in router mode, not AP mode which is not supported or designed. It's recommended that you use your main host router to handle any of the management features instead if your going to use the 645 in AP mode.

Thanks for that. I'd actually seen that link, but TBH I don't think it explains why the device running as eiither a router or AP is filtering wired access to admin pages. My main host router isn't going to control which MAC addresses can connect to the D-Link AP.

In my experience MAC filtering controls which devices can connect over wi-fi. It seems very odd to me that in D-Link's case it also filters out access to admin pages. Unless you're suggesting it would work as I expected if I ran it as a router?

MAC Filtering controls both Wired and wireless. I would presume that if your ALLOWing MACs thru then any of them should have access. IF you are DENYing MACs then nobody gets access at all.

I would presume that the 645 would operate normally in Router mode. Have you tried it yet?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried it in router mode yet and probably won't because where my modem is positioned would mean not much wi-fi signal for the rest of the house.
