DNS-323 problem
« on: April 30, 2013, 09:36:52 AM »

Hi.
My right harddisc has turned black (on the indication LEDs). This is not covered in any instructions. I have now Replaced the disc with a new one, but the LED is still black. I have configured the system, RAID 1, but only the first disc says RAID 1 in the state, the right one (new) says JBOD. Has anyone a idea why the LED has turned black.

If you setup a RAID 1 array at the beginning then you need to tell the unit to rebuild the raid array.

As for the LED being black do you mean that it actually shows as a black light or is the LED just black?  If the former then the LED has overheated and burnt the outer plastic, if the latter then it has again overheated and burned the plastic but it has burned out.  In both cases it needs replacing and the current limiting resistor needs checking for value as it may be a virtual short circuit.
