Transfer in SubFolder very slowly
« on: May 02, 2013, 12:46:06 PM »

Hi,

i have two of the DNS-320. In one of these, I have a 1TB and a 3TB HDD. It worked fine until my Backup Software calls Errors (Backup on the 1TB). I tried to open the Backup Folder, but it didn't react. So I tried to copy datas to the 3TB and the Transferrate was only 1-2MB/s. If I copy the data into the root Directory of the HDD it worked fine, but in Subfolders it is very slowly. Same by the 1TB HDD - in root Directory it works fine.

FW: 203
Network and PC are not the Problem.
I tried to locate the Problem between hdd and nas, but if I switch the 3TB HDD into the other DNS320, I have to format it. So I can't check this.

Sry for my bad english : ).

Any ideas? Thank you!

How are you trying to do this copy, from NAS to PC and back to NAS or are you using the internal backup feature of the DNS-320 which allows backup of files and/or folders from one disk to the other?

Hi,

the way is from PC to NAS. Such copy and past in Windows. I havn't activate anything in the NAS, actually it is only a network storage for me. Backup Program is also running on the PC.

I am also not able to delete the "crashed" Backup Folder to make it new. Any ideas how I can format only the one (1TB) HDD and keep the datas from the ohter (3TB) hdd. Maybe the HDD Controller is damaged because of the many access errors from the Backup software on the "crashed" Backup Folder (1TB).

But it's very mystifie, why in the root of the HDD (3TB) the transferrate is ok and in the Subfolder very slow.

thx for help!

A question I should have asked, how are your disks setup - RAID 0 or 1 or as single disks?

If they are RAID 1 or single disks it is possible to check them by using a USB/SATA caddy or adapter and plugging that into your windows PC with either an IFS that can read Ext2/3 file system or a program that can read the linux file systems.

If you decide to try checking your disks this way DO NOT let windows try to do anything with the disk.  If windows complains that it need to format the disk or do anything else it means that the IFS is not mounted or there is a problem with the program - STOP and unplug the drive that way you will not damage your drive or data.

If all goes well and you can read the drive you can then investigate the folder problem and check the attributes of the problem folder.

The only other thing I should say is, take care and double check what you are doing, also there is information about IFS drivers and programs in the sticky 'DNS-320 - Data Recovery (windows PCs).

Hi,

thank you for your answer. I have set the HDD as Single Disk. Thanks for the Idea with the USB/SATA adapter. If I have time, I will try it. I have a virtual Linux, so it should work to check the hdd. I would give feedback.

thx for help
