Previous setup without problems
B1 Firmware 2.00

Cable modem>Router>4 computers + 1 wireless printer.. But i needed more ports so i bought a trendnet gigabit switch with 8 ports.

Then I  Plugged port 4 on router to >switch port 1

When all the computers are turned on and using everything at once i cant access websites but my skype works so i figure its probably a dns issue and my dlink is overloaded? I didnt try to access any sites with the ip only fail on my part.

Once this happened i immediately unplugged everything and restarted the router. I only have my own computer hooked up the router and did a firmware upgrade to 2.10na and my internet works immediately after but when i hook up another comptuer to the network i cant access any pages but my skype works.. so it seems like a dns issue? Anyway to resolve this?

my qos engine options are also greyed out

Thanks.

Link>Welcome!

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Has a Factory Reset been performed before and after upgrading to v2.10 and set up from scratch?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Did you remove the switch and re-test with computers connected to directly to the router?

hi furrynutz

1)Hardware Version: B1     Firmware Version: 2.10NA

2)Factory rest was performed before and after upgrading to 2.10na and setup from scratch through the setupguide that brought me through all the menus, changing wireless password, changing admin password and etc.

3)CABLE 20 mbps download i think maybe 2mbps upload

4) dlink dir-655

5) i remove the switch and retest the computers directly connected to the router i plugged in my own computer first worked fine. The moment i plug in my 2nd computer i lose all internet connection until i reboot the router. I also setup dhcp reservations for my computer and turned off advance dns. When i plug in my 3rd computer same thing happens i lose all internet connection until i reboot the router.

I also have qos and traffic shaping turned off. I started having problems with my router when i hook up my switch and now it just messed up my router completely

What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench

Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.

Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion
Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
What wireless modes are you using?
2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

This should be working well for you. I have the same modem.

However I use custom DNS and turned DNS relay OFF and set WAN port speed to 1000Mb since the 6 series modems support 1000Mb speeds.

All other settings are the same. I use a 24pt Gb switch on the back end of my routers. Works well...

Keep us posted.

ok things seems to be going fine after each port i plug in i restarted the router and my net is back.. do you use google dns or the one provided by your isp? i also plugged in my switch and its working now.

side question .. i personally own this modem sb6120.. when i called in to my isp twc they put a password on it.. or something i cant log in to it anymore. i called back twc they told me they never put passwords on customer own modems.

I use DNS addresses that Name Bench gave me.

Ya, they need to remove the PW. They can if the modem belongs to them however should not when it belongs to you. I would attempt to have them remove the PW and if not then you'll be at there mercy or give Motorola a call to see if there is anything they can do to remove it. That's not good.

Glad you go the network and switch working.

Enjoy.

hehe thank you for all your help.. sadly i think twc messed up and provision my modem with something else thats why it has a password on it. If it works atm i rather not mess with it =]

apprently using google as my primary dns will increase my speeds by 300% with web browsing

Just make sure at some point, they remove the PW. The Motorola modems don't have much in configuration anyways, however it does have logs and status that can come in handy for troubleshooting and also has a Reboot Modem function as well thats handy.

The Name Bench results vary from different places. Google was listed for me however was not a high as a few other DNS addresses that NB picked out.

Enjoy.

I would use default settings and use default DNS from ISP and turn DNS relay back on and re-test.

How is the Obi connected? To the back of the router? It is placed in the routers DMZ by chance?

Glad you found the problem.
