If the first firmware RESTORE gave you an error, why in Pete's sake did you run the same restored config file again? This actually 'proves' that the saved config files can get damaged (You only need one bit to go wild).
Resolution: Do the exact same thing that solved it the first time and when you're in DO NOT restore the saved config again (otherwise I will start to believe that you're the one with a bug in your head...

). Configure manually and set a new password.
PS: always do a firmware upgrade through wired PC, never through a wirelessly connected PC
