Hi,

I have a question, Can i turn off /disable SMB? I installed torrent package and the deafult torrent's directory (Volume_1\BT) is shared on network... WTF? I dont want to use smb on this device it is only an FTP but i can not to disable smb.
Or yes?  It is a problem, beacuse all torrents are browseable on internet...

1)  I don't think it can be turned off (not without hacking the device)
2)  Turning SMB/CIFS will not solve your problem - the protocol is blocked at your router - it's your torrent client that's sharing the torrents - and that is fundamental to torrents, it's how they work.

You don't understand: The torrent client created a NEW SAMBA share, and it is FREE BROwSABLE on internet. Because my nas is on publinc net couse i use it an FTP server...!
BUT if you connect to device from anywhere like this:
\\123.123.123.123 you can see this
\\123.123.123.123
\+BT

 and see my torrnets for FREE...

A couple of points ...

1)  Unless your DNS-323 is directly connected to your ISP without a router in between them, it is not on the public network.

2)  Your DNS-323 does not to have to be on a public network to be an ftp server.

Okay it is true!

This nas is under mydomain.com like  backupftp.mydomain.cpm  and if you connect to domain with SMB (with simpla network browser or total commander  or gnome commander, ( cd \\backupft.mydomain.com ) not with ftp, you can see \BT share for free... Samba is runnig. FTP is "secure" with passwd and user.

Anybody can see this share... if i remove BT client this share turn off. But if is installed again the share will be public again...

Upgraded (1.9 -> 1.10 )FW not solved this problem.

THis is an issue with the BT client. The only way around it, assuming you want to run torrents, is to install third party software.

It is directly connected to net...!  (for me only need a simple dummy ftp)

I didn't ask net - I asked internet - there is a difference.

Connecting the NAS directly to the net without a firewall or router between exposes the entire device - torrent client or not.

You can run an ftp server without connecting it directly to the internet

(net is internet for me... ) Internet.....  Directly TO INTERNET.  Without firewall or router.

This torrent client is bad, but i don't understand why i can not to turn samba off ? ...  I have an other has other manufacturer much better:(  i'm searching 3th party client

It really doesn't make a difference - by connecting the NAS directly to the internet without a firewall, you are the one choosing to use it outside of it's intended design parameters, you're the one choosing to compromise your security - it really is an unnecessary risk.

I've been running my DNS-323 as an ftp server for the past six years - protected by my firewall.

To be behind a firewall or router is not relevant! It is simple issue, and a big problem that a program can create a free share without my    permission.
I understand your opinion abut firewall, but if you want to use a simple and WELL managed FTP you don't need firewall beacuse the ftp is only an ftp. ONLY.  It is NOT solution to use a firewall, the solution is to use  a safety WORKABLE BT client, or a switchable  SMB client!
My other nas can do this, but i dont want to throw out this dlink.

You've missed the point - because the DNS-323 is designed to be a NAS server, and not just an ftp server, connecting to the internet without a firewall is a security risk - even without the bt client running, the SMB shares are still exposed, every service running on the device is accessible to the public, not just ftp, admin web pages, AV, the whole ball of wax

I'm not going to belabor the point - I'm not the one that's exposed - if you're OK with it, fine - the reason I'm posting this is so that other users know which path to take to avoid unnecessary risk.
