how to reset the file permissions

Hi,

I had to reset my has because I forgot my admin password and now I no longer have write access to my existing files.  I can write to it but I cannot modify my existing files.  I think I have to change ownership of the existing files.  Currently, all my files belong to "allaccou".  How would I fix this?
