User, Access, FTP Problems
« on: May 28, 2013, 10:04:17 PM »

hey guys,

So here is my predicament.

I am running a DNS-323 set up with users and everything. I followed instructions on how to set them up and everything, got them created and set up 1 group with a few user (3/20). Then I created inside Volume_1, two folders 1 & 2, I gave permission to ALL users to access the folder 1 and only the group (3/20) users to access folder 2. Now Everyone can access folder 1 (event Guest user in MAC) no problem, but no one can access folder 2.

So questions:
1.How do I disable the GUEST USER so that you can only gain access to folder 1 with the your personal login?
2. Why can everyone access folder 1 and no one can acces folder 2 even though the permissions are set?

Next problem is with FTP I have set it up and everything but I cannot seen to make it work I am running the DNS-323 in 192.11.168.253 (EDIT: 192.168.11.253) and my router on 192.168.11.254
My router is a DSL-2640B

Let me know if you need more info and I really appreciate the help!

Thank you!

Can I assume that 192.11.168.253 is a typo and should be 192.168.11.253?

Have you tried accessing the ftp server from within the LAN?

What errors do you get when you try to access it?

.... but most of all right now its the user can you help me with that? I mean right now i am connected under my user to Folder 1 and I have privileges for both Folder and I cannot connect to the second one...

Again Thank you

SIDENOTE: when you change folder permissions and user permission on the WEBADMIN interface to I need to reboot the DNS to make changes have effect?

I'm sorry, I can be on no help with the user access - the DNS-323 implementation has some quirks there and I never took the time to figure them out, I don't use mine for "secure storage" - when you're ready to work on the ftp, give me a holler.

Ok cool no worries I manager to fix it...

THE DNS 323 ONLY WORKS WITH PRIVATE PASSWORDS WITH NUMBERED PASSWORDS IF YOU MAKE THEM ALPHANUMBERIC ITS LIKE THEY ARE WRONG JUST DOESNT WORK.

ok so for the FTP how do we go about it... does the DNS have to be connected straight to the Router or can the router be connected to a switch and then to the DNS? Cheers

Either way works - in fact, unless your router has only a single LAN port, which is quite rare nowadays - the router most likely has a switch built in to it.

And I chose not to reply - forums are about shared knowledge and experience - one-on-one consultancy comes with a fee attached.

ok I have no problem with that the message was just intended for my private pics...

So can you help on the setting up for the DNS?

I believe it to be setup already the DDNS is Enabled with the website i created from ddnslink.com

the FTP SErver on the DNS is Started too with this settings:
Status               Started
 Port                       2121
 Max. User               10
 Flow Control          Unlimited
 Idle Time               10
 Client Language      Western European

I had to use port 2121 cause my Router when I try the Port Forwarding says that the Port 21 is used...

So can you help?

Cheers again...
