Periodic WiFi Connectivity Issues (DAP-2553)
« on: June 03, 2013, 10:25:22 AM »

Two D-Link DAP-2553 in an ESS config (with 2 other Linksys WAPs) on different channels, v1.27 of firmware in a small office of 15-20 clients. When rebooted work well for a couple of days and then lock up and nobody can connect to, unless you stay connected before the lock-up happens.
Tried changing Beacon and ACK intervals/time-outs, as suggested here:
http://www.helpowl.com/q/D-Link/DAP2553/Technical-Support/frequently-loosing-connection-dap2553/267291 but that didn't help.
Firmware v1.27 was downloaded from: http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008.asp
Hardware: A1
Right now I'm thinking of returning both of them, unless someone has something else to suggest.
Thanks!

Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on DAPs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion
Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
[/list]
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK  only or Auto
.

 Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it.
 Enable WMM Enable

Yes, the issue is still present. I'm going to try dd-wrt.

DD-WRT on the Linksys E2000 at my private place has really made a difference. It has all sorts of issues before (using stock firmware) which Linksys couldn't resolve - not even the simple bug where setting ant NAT port interval wouldn't work. DD-WRT was installed...now it all works :)

Unfortunately there isn't any 3rd party support for these DAPs.

Are these 2 DAPs in the same location or near by or in different locations?
Have you swapped the DAPs with each other as a test?

Any chance you can take one of the DAPs to a different location, like a friend or families place and install and see if the problem follows? Hoping what we can help narrow this down a bit more. Please let me know if you can do this...
