Hello,
In my computer company we used to build wireless networks inside hotels and other touristic places...
we were using DWL-3200AP, a very good and powerful access point, but recently. Dlink has stop the DWL series and discontinue those access points.

Now, I have to use the new DAP-2360 N access point, but the problem is that the signal quality is poor... Although the speed is much better, the signal strength is half the DWL-3200AP.
so I got many many problems cause i have sell more than 100 DWL-3200 the past 8 years and i have to replace the damaged units with new.
but, in such a poor signal quality, i have to replace every 1 dwl-3200 with 2 more dap-2360

for example, an android smartphone (in a 10 meters distancefor source) gets 2 of 4 bars of signal in dap-2360 and 4 in dwl-3200ap

also, dap-2360 cannot penetrate walls and objects like the dwl-3200 do....

so, i want to know if i missing something... is there any special settings to increase throughput power?

I have try 3 different dap-2360 devices and more than 10 android, apple and other smartphones.
the same thing happens with laptops :/

currently i have try the b/g only settings, switching between all the channels manually and auto, with POE 48v and directly with the DC adapter, different ch width settings (20,40, auto 20/40) and some other settings in fragmentation settings

 
any help will be great...

All 802.11n certified routers and APs must now implement a good neighbour policy. The router can support 20 and 20/40 channel width, however, will fall back to 20mhz only if the router detect another device nearby running on the same band. In other words, if your neighbours are running a 2.4ghz network. your router will fall back to 20mhz which negotiates to usually between 130-150Mbps. Older revisions of 802.11n routers did not implement this and thus will show up to 300Mbps. Without getting too technical, if this wasn't implemented, everyone would be cutting everyone elses signal and causing severe wireless disconnections. The older DWLs might have not had this policy thus they had good range and power.

Have you tried G only mode/20Mhz Only. I know that using dual modes will cut the range down some. Using single mode usually helps extend the range.

You may need to phone contact D-Link support, level 3 or higher and get some help on this since you have such a large platform to configure and get working with all devices. I channels should differ between each unit however that might depend on the operation mode your using. You might need to run one in AP mode then another in repeater mode if the new ones support any WDS or repeating.

Call and ask D-Link about this so you can get immediate help. [/list]

this is a strange issue cause many "stup**" neighbors operating illegal access point in very high throughput..

well, d-link support told me to enable short GI in 801.11n mode and also enable the WPA2 encryption cause it will boost performance.

also, to try different values for DTIM intervals and "ack time" values.

I'll give it a try.
