Disks Synchronization problem
« on: June 07, 2013, 05:15:33 AM »

Hi,

I have 2x1.5TB WD HDD in RAID-1. Every time I restart the NAS the second drive gets removed from the raid, and synchronizations starts again (either automatically or manually, depending on the settings - I've tried both). I'm observing this since firmware 1.0 - now I'm with 1.02b07 - no change.
Once raid is synchronized, it works OK / I've checked with mdadm /, but web interface still shows it as "degraded", and when I restart it, it starts over, so I'm suspecting that some configuration file didn't get updated or something.

Any ideas?

After factory reset and RAID rebuild from scratch ( with disk formatting ) the problem was fixed (so far).
I suspect that the reason for this was that I have originally installed one disk, format is a single volume and copy data to it. Then I have installed the second disk and create RAID-1, using that data . BUT, that first disk was installed in second slot. So I think that caused RAID rebuilding every time.

Thanks for sharing your solution. Please post back and let us know if everything remains stable going forward.  ;)

I have the same problem. Can this please be logged as a serious request as the bug needs fixing. Accepting the workaround of buying another disk is not reasonable.

I'll pose the question to D-Link and see if they could provide/validate a workable procedure.

I've managed to temporarily work round this by borrowing some disks from work to backup my data, reformatting the ShareCenter and now copying data back on. I've found the same as the OP in that RAID 1 now works.

The bug appears to be that the Sharecenter is unable to rebuild the array from a 'Degraded' RAID Scenario. This does require addressing as otherwise if a disk in the array fails, even once you've replaced it you wouldn't be able to rebuild...
