Router to router: one internet connection, two lans
« on: June 07, 2013, 07:15:38 AM »

Hi,

Maybe this question has been asked before but i can't find any answers.
Currently i have a wireless router (DIR-825) which is used for my local network (pc, console, media center, etc...).
I'd like to create another LAN from my existing one by connecting a router (bridge, AP, ?) and share my internet connection.
On this second lan, i'd like to have different IPs, a different Wifi WPA key and maybe manage traffic.
Is it possible ? and which router is the more flexible for this solution ?

To explain: i have roomers and i want they access a different lan with limitations.

Thanks for help !

This would be possible however could introduce Link>Double NAT conditions that make internet connections problematic.

The use of the main host routers DMZ could help in using 2 routers and should eliminate the double NAT condition.

You could use the main host routers default LAN side IP address sting pool, 192.168.0.100-199 then connect a 2nd router, setting that LAN side IP address pool to something different, like 191.168.1.100-199.

Theoretically, yes. It should. Configuration will be a factor.  ;)
