I can't log into my files remotely on DNS-321
« on: June 11, 2013, 09:26:16 AM »

I have had a DNS-321 for years.  I am usually able to figure things out.  After hours of trying, I am turning to the forum for help.

As per the supplied instructions.
Ports: Ext 21, Int 21
Protocall TCP
Set up a user and password for SMB.
Type in my router IP address in a browser on another machine and page can't be displayed is all I get.

I read that you can try ports 80, so I did and now I can get to the product set up page, but can not get to a log in that allows me to get to my files.  I must be missing something quite obvious.

I tried this set up years ago when I first got the 321 and gave up and I really had no required application at the time.  Now I do, and just cant figure it out.  Hope someone can enlighten me.

Some quick suggestions:

1.  Have you turned on the FTP server on the NAS?

2.  Are you using an FTP client to access the NAS?  Try starting with Internet Explorer, addressing with the following format:  ftp://xx.xx.xx.xx  (it will assume port 21 with the FTP address).

3. Bring up the FTP server from inside your network (ftp://xx.xx.xx.xx using the internal IP address of the NAS.  If this works, then the NAS is working fine, and your client is working, so the problem would be with your router setup and the port forwarding rules.

Give that a try and let us know what works.
