DIR655 Wireless Abilities?
« on: June 17, 2013, 01:50:54 PM »

I hope someone can help me.

I am using a dir655 as main router.  Using a couple of dir615 as wired access points throughout the house where I have CAT5 running from the dir655 to the dir 615s.  Have one room that is still not getting a good wireless signal and I do not have CAT5 cable running to this room.

Can I use a dlink dir605L router as a wireless AP/repeater/bridge (not sure the correct terminology) to place in the room with weak signal?  It would have to connect wirelessly as there is no CAT5 cable in this room.  I would like it (or another product) to capture the weak wifi signal from the dir615 and make it stronger.  Basically I want to set its settings correctly, plug it in the wall for power and have it make the signal stronger in that room.

Thanks for any and all help!!

Link>Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
  • What wireless devices do you have connected?
  • Any cordless house phones?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
  • If you have any of theese options, Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
  • Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

If the 605L supports native wireless bridging then you should be able to connect it to the 655 wireless signal and then place the 605L where needed. I presume the operating connection distance between the 655 and 605L should be with in 30ft I would guess.

What region are you located?

I believe it does. Please refer to the User Manual to find Bridging information.
