Hello, I just bought a DIR 645 and the wireless ain`t working properly. Wired works flawless.
On the back of the router it says:
Hardware rev A1; P/N: some numbers ... and A1E;

I`ve updated the firmware to this one: http://www.dlink.com/ro/ro/home-solutions/connect/routers/dir-645-wireless-n-home-router-1000

I`ve also tried 1.02, 1.04 but nothing is changing.

The wireless network doesn`t even appear in the wifi list.
When I`m changing the channel width to 20Mhz, the wireless network seems to appear in inSSIDer, but my internet speed is maxed at 40Mbps, and the signal is very unstable, not getting constant speeds at all. Not to mention the weak signal after I move away from the router into a room(aprox 10+meters). Maybe the device is faulty ? Im gonna try some settings over the weekend and probably gonna RMA it on Monday.

My ISP is a 100Mbps connection. I`ve tried a TPLink before this, which I RMA`ed, cuz of the weak signal in my house, but when I was close to it, at least I was getting max speeds with it over wireless, of 96Mbps.

My region is Romania, East European.

If anyone has any ideas, I`ll be very thankful.

ps: my 6 years old MSI RG54SE2 router performs better. It has full signal in the room mentioned above. I want to change it because it is only 802.11g, so I`m limited to 54Mbps.

Does the signal and rate work better if you test at say 4-5 Meters distance?
1 Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE 802.11 specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range. Wireless range and speed rates are D-Link RELATIVE performance measurements based on the wireless range and speed rates of a standard Wireless G product from D-Link. Maximum throughput based on D-Link 802.11n devices.

Reason why your MSI probably performs better could be due to the fact that it doesn't conform to the "Good Neighbor" policy where newer generation router do. However not sure if that effects the EU region or not.

Yes

Yes. I have seen no difference between firmware updates

ZTE ZXA10 F625A. You can find images on google by searching just those words if needed.

The only way my wireless network is gonna show in inSSIDer is by checking 20Mhz Only. If i set it to 20/40 , it only shows in inSSIDer for a few seconds then disappears.

I ve tried them all, 1 and 6 seem to have better signal quality

Just one router found in the area where my router is placed, but its signal is very weak. 90+db. In the room mentioned above there is the same router found earlier.

How do I enable this? As you can see in the picture uploaded above, the option is greyed out.

The signal at 4-5 meters is the same when I`m actually near the router (40Mbps MAX) maybe 5-10Mbps lower because the signal ain`t stable, even though there are no walls.

PS: I`ve set it to 20/40Mhz and it worked for a few minutes (wow) and actually got to do a speed test and it was ~60Mbps but not constant at all. Then the wireless network dropped for a minute, now it`s up again but still not a constant signal, fluctuating like crazy. (this is 4 meters away from the router, no wall, nothing to bother the signal).

With the laptop actually near the router i get 70Mbps but fluctuating going down to 40-50 then up and so on. With the TPLink it would actually stay at 90Mbps constant. I think this DLink is faulty.

I don`t have any short GI option. The HT 20/40 is disabled. Wireless speeds seem to be better now, although I haven`t changed a thing, except setting from 20Mhz to 20/40Mhz, which I already have than that before but with no result. This is too weird.

The signal is still very unstable. It looses connection from time to time. The further away I am, the more frequently the connection drops.

No. Just now the wireless network went down. I`m at 3-4 meters away. If I go into that room, ~10 meters away, the signal is very weak and the network goes down very often ( I monitor with inSSIDer)


LE: this device must be faulty. I`ve reached on wireless (3-4m distance) about 80Mbps (quite good but not what I was hoping for) and the wireless went down again. I`m gonna RMA it on Monday. If you have any suggestion go ahead, but my money is on faulty device.

Ensure the client device drivers are up to date.

Does this happen with only this one client device or with multiples? If it happens across the board then I'm with you, needs to be RMAd.

While your waiting on an RMA, if there is a local store with a DIR series router available and a refund policy, you might give a try to see if another router works.

Im gonna RMA it and wait for another one, hoping it will be replaced and that one won`t be faulty.

Hello, i`ve recieved a new router, the old one was clearly faulty.

Unfortunately I think this one may be broken too, because whenever I start downloading something through P2p via wireless, it reaches a high speed then it drops to near 0, and then the internet won`t work for aprox a minute or two.

This happens on different wireless clients. On the cable it`s ok.
When the internet goes down, it goes down only on the client that was downloading, the others are fine.
Any suggestions FurryNutz?

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
