Using D-ViewCam on Windows 8 without Disabling UAC
« on: June 26, 2013, 05:09:10 PM »

Obviously if you want to use the Windows Store or any of the built in applications in Windows 8, you can't disable UAC.

Is there anyway of installing D-ViewCam on Windows 8 without disabling UAC, and without buying a new Windows XP license to run a Hyper-v instance?

I've tried 3.4 and 3.50 and in both cases, I just get into the "The Program Must Restart To apply a new setting" loop of death.

Any help is appreciated.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\DlinkViewCam
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Dlink

Delete those. Worked for me finally, and I am on windows 8 64bit.

Can't you temporarily disable UAC, install DVC and once thats complete, re-enable UAC?  ???

This is probably an issue for D-Link and the DVC people. Windows 8 is very new and DVC probably needs to be updated to fully support Windows 8 and it's UAC behavior. I'd phone contact D-Link support and ask for help on this to see if there is any thing they can do until they release something new for Windows 8.

This problem has been around since 2001, pre-windows 8.
There is no excuse for this. Our first hint of problems is that the application installs c++ 2005 redistributable!

Great camera, lousy software. Ditto with mydlink and the java issue.

It's a damning shame that D-Link camera hardware is badly let down by third rate amateurish and dated software. Fortunately there are alternatives that shine over D-Link.

The reality now is though that all the problems I know of with IE, Java etc are fixed. I haven't seen a better solution which is why I stuck with the product.

I am finding it quite adequate now.... I tried to find the posts where I had commented, the problems were fixed at least a month ago. I missed finding this one
