Author Topic: XBox 360 & Other Media Players Cannot See DIR-655 Shareport Hard Drive.  (Read 4974 times)

I've tried everything it seems to make this work, but I can't get my XBox (or any my Media Players) to see the hard drive hanging off the DIR-655 router Shareport. DIR-655 hardware version: A4, Firmware Version 1.35NA.
The only way I can get my PCs to see the drive is with the Shareport Utility.

Is there ANY WAY to get my Media Players (XBox 360 & WD TV Play & Samsung Smart DVD) to see the Hard Drive?

Also not sure if Rev A model routers support a Media Server feature with out the use of Shareport. The older generation routers needed the application SharePort to be installed on PCs to connected to the USB device connected to the USB port on the router.

Once again, you're absolutely correct. 3 weeks ago, my friend's router died, and I recommended the DIR-655, so he purchased one used for $30. He loves it BTW. One week later, MY old router died and I got my DIR-655. Turns out my friend has version B (which is capable of sharing to the XBox and PCs without the Shareport Utility) However, of course (my luck) I have the older version which is INCAPABLE of sharing to the XBox etc. without the Shareport Utility. UGH! I'll be selling my DIR-655. Anyone want it? $30. Haha!!

Keep us posted on what you get. If you don't get a Rev B, you could try one of the newer DIR cloud "L" series routers. I like the DIR-826L.  ;)
