DIR-615 D4 serial pinout needed.
« on: July 05, 2013, 12:57:21 PM »

Hi All,

My PC froze while updating the firmware on my 615 D4 and I can no longer get access to it, even through the Emergency Room Web interface.

I've built a serial to TTL adapter from a diagram found on the DDWRT website but I can't find the serial port pinout. I've found it for many other 615's but not the D4. The PCB layout is very similar, if not identical, to the D3.

I also need instructions for debricking the router using the serial port but the pinout will do for now.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Many thanks.

This information is probably not available to the public. You can phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask them to see if you can get this information.

I tried the pinout for the D1....D3 but I couldn't get the adapter to work, most probably because I don't know how to use it. However, I noticed that after disconnecting the adapter and switching the router back on, the power light momentarily blinked green before going amber and continued to blink. Just for the sake of it, I retried to enter the Emergency Room Web interface and it worked, although the firmware update did not.

After this firmware update failed I tried to get to the Emergency Room Web interface but without any luck. I reconnected my adapter, powered it up then disconnected it again; I was then able to access the Emergency Room Web interface again.

Obviously, connecting my adapter causes the router to reset or drop a condition that a normal reset will not do, most bizarre. Any way I've now managed to update the router with DDwrt which seems to be working fine.

I'll contact D-Link to see if they will give me the pin outs for the serial connector.

Many thanks.
