Parental Controls
« on: July 05, 2013, 11:24:31 PM »

Hi,
I am wondering how to block the times of 2 computers of my kids during certain times at night.
I don't understand how to do the parental control rule.  I've tried with the MAC Filtering method but
nothing seems to work.

Please advise.

Thank you

Link>Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

To set up scheduling:
1. Reserve device IP addresses ON the router under Setup/Networking.
2. Set up a schedule under Tools/Schedule on the routers web page. Customize your dates and times here.
3. Use Access Control under Advanced to apply the customized schedule to a policy and to the PC(s) desired to be controlled

Hi and thank you for your reply,

My router is DIR-600L 150N cloud router version 1.00.
However, I've tried looking in my browser and I can't seem to find Setup/Networking.
I also could not find Advance/Access Controls.
I'm assuming it's Maintenance/Schedule ? I don't see any Tools > Schedule.

Hi,

I still cannot get Parental controls to block certain times for my kids' computers.
I have tried the Maintenance/ Schedule method and also reserved the IP addresses of the computers in Setup/Lan setup
But I cannot find Access Controls under Advanced at all.
Is it because I have to update my router to the new version ?
Please advise, thanks.

What region are you located?

I see that this model router does not have access control features. So I'm not sure if this will work.

I live in Canada. Does that mean I cannot block access for certain times using this model ?
Kindly let me know so that I can change the model.

Thank you

I believe to correctly block access for certain devices, you need both Scheduling and Access Control. The scheduling sets the time frames, Access Control uses the schedule to set the time frames to what devices that need to be controlled.

I recommend looking in to a DIR-626L or 636L for 2.4Ghz only radios, if you want both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios, then a DIR-820L, 826L or 836L will be something you need to review. I have 826L and enjoy it greatly.

Hi,
That means without the Access Control feature, this model is useless then for not being able to block certain computers at certain times, right ?
I guess I shall have to look at the other models that you have suggested.
May I ask, even if I were to update to the newer version, I would still not see the Access Control feature ?

You can update to see if the Access Control feature is added. I presume it won't be. This is a pretty low end model router. Limited and basic features. Review some of the others. Those do have the feature you need.
