If that was the case, a printer reboot would also fix the problem, but it doesn't. Only rebooting the router itself works.

So then it looks to me like their routines that are managing the USB port on the router are not working properly.  They probably not handling the signal lines properly and recognizing the voltage transitions on the USB port. Probably the printer works for awhile while the good routines are running and then when the printer is idle or whatever causes the router to enter the bad routine, it stops handling the USB port signaling properly and hangs.  They need to fix it in firmware program.

Or it could be that they are mismanaging their memory allocations, after accessing and/or printing data for a few times, maybe a buffer is filling up or an array boundary is reached and it overwrites other data outside of the printer routine thus causing corruption of their firmware code and it hangs.  They need to investigate all this to fix the firmware.  It is an easy fix if they knew what to look for.

This is what it's all about.

Shareport 1.10
Dir-825
Firmware 1.11NA

Spoke with tech support for over an hour.

We hard reset the router and reinstalled shareport.

I also shutdown and hibernated the Vista PC to see if that affected anything.
Nope.

After a few hours the router stopped connecting.

Unplugging it was the only solution.

Hello,

Version A2
Printer Epson Aculaser C900
WIFI disabled on the router
Computer 1 : Vista x64 wired (gigabit) (generally closed when the problem appears)
Computer 2  XP SP2 wired (gigabit) (generally has the problem)
Computer 3 (wired with CPL) Vista x32 (or Win7 x32) (has shareport installed, but has never used the printer). and nearly always closed (was never on when the problem appeared)
The settings in shareport was 10 sec before releasing and is now at 300 but it doesn't change anything.
all was fine with the old version.
I can send a backup of my configuration file if it can help.

Hello
I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
I am using the DIR-655 router with the 1.31 firmware and shareport 1.10.  I want to plug the HP Photosmart A716 into the USB port and share it across my network.  There is a problem though, shareport sees the printer, connects it and then after a few seconds disconnects it.  This keeps on happening no matter what I do.  I tried resetting the router, turning off AVG anti virus, etc.  From what I heard this is a firmware or shareport issue.  Does anyone have a solution yet, or do you know when the next firmware/software updates will be released?  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Router- DIR 655 1.31  with Shareport 1.10
OS -  Windows 7 RC with all updates
Printer - HP Photosmart A716

I've have mentioned this before but the idea is either so far fetched that it didn't deserve a response or a D-Link engineer has not read it so I will repeat it here.

When I ran Netmon to see what was happening while my imaging software was writing to my powered, USB drive, the vast majority of events reported were requests to various TCP ports. When the connection began to fail I started receiving requests to various UDP ports and they were from the router DNS. From what I could decipher, the router was attempting to talk to my computer in the way of querying who was on the other end. Each request ended with a message to the effect that there was something wrong with the name of the computer on the other end. After receiving several of these messages the backup process would freeze which, of course, meant the connection had been severed. Perhaps the UDP requests were coming because the connection had already been severed. Kind of like a "Hey, you still there?". Or, it means something else, or nothing, or I should stick to non-technical work and let the experts do their job. Anyway, if any D-Link engineer would care to chime in and tell me to either get lost or, if I make you scratch your chin and say "hmmmm", then my job here is done.

The Shareport client is third party "as is". Vjanges will need to be implemented into the firmware. As they did with 1.32 beta.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere but I've resolved my problems with SharePort through this very helpful link - http://www.techgremlin.com/2009/08/20/d-link-shareport-update/

Basically, it involves uninstalling SharePort & installing the software version that it's originally based on - SX Virtual Link 3.4.0 Windows
