Shareport (1.1.0 R1) - Printer not staying connected
« on: May 15, 2009, 10:03:27 AM »

After upgrading my DIR-825 router to latest firmware and upgrading Windows pc to latest Shareport utility, the Shareport software sees my router and printer but when I try to connect it apparently connects for just a few seconds, Shareport looks for status, and it shows as Not Connected again.  Has anyone else seen this problem with these versions?

With the latest Shareport you have an option to connect to the printer only when printing.  Once the print job is finished, Shareport disconnects making the printer available to another machine on your network.  Did you enable that option?

BTW I've never been able to get it to work.  The 'searching for driver' screen comes up and stays up even though the driver is installed.

Cheers

Sadly - I do not even get that far.  I can't even get it to connect and stay connected to the printer manually.

Greetings!

Since installing the latest FW 1.11 and the Shareport 1.1.0 R1 driver I have a similar problem. I'm able to connect to my Epson printer but only a small part of the print job goes thru then it hangs and I have to power off the printer to recover.

Not ready for prime time.

I am having the same issue.

I have firmware 1.11NA and am using the correct shareport version for that rev of firmware.

I have an Canon IP3600 connected to the usb port.  When I try to print is prints out a colorfull mess.  Then later on I'll be unable to connect to the printer at all.  It will sit at the 'connecting' dialog for about 8 seconds then return to the availiable screen.

This version of shareport just doesn't work for me either.  I had a usb hard drive plugged in and it'll connect but then the drive never appears.  Then when you check the status it says Drive found, waiting to connect.  Previously, with this firmware it worked but I was getting 'delayed write fail errors" ($mft).  Since I plugged the drive back into the desktop it's worked fine.

Yeah..it's a shame too.  It's a very nice feature..but I've read on several forums about issues with it across the board.

The problem is definitely in the firmware. If I login then reboot the router from the Tools/System page, it restores function for me (at least temporarily). Power off the router for 10 sec. also seems to work. Restarting the PC or the shareport utility has no effect so this is definitely not a problem on the PC or software side.

Well - I finally got my printer to work.  I had to:
a. During the upgrade, I imported my old configuration from the original firmware (per the instructions).  So now, I reset the settings to factory default within 1.11NA firmware and then re-entered all of my settings/customizations manually.
b. I unplugged the printer from the router USB port and then reboot the router.  After the router was up and my machines could connect to internet and such, I re-connected my printer into the router's USB port.

After these two steps, my printer connections work fine until after a few days.  Similar to other threads in this forum, I'm going to try disabling the DNS relay setting to see if this fixes the problem.  Honestly, it seems like after a few days of working fine; the router begins degrading and losing functionality.  It's almost like an internal firmware memory leak or firmware program's "capacity is exceeded" bug.

Exact same problem as the OP here.  DIR-825 with latest firmware with associated Shareport version.  I have an HP Photosmart C4400 Series printer and Shareport sees it, when I double-click it shows the printers status as "You are connected" for a few seconds and then goes back to "Available".  Windows never detects the device.

Listen, D-Link, as an IT Pro I've been conditioned to be pretty tolerant of buggy software.  But my wife wants to scan and print things and as far as she is concerned, your screw-up is my fault.  PLEASE help me.

I have been having the same issue. After countless emails and no resolution I decided to try setting up a schedule that shuts down wireless access for one minute at 2:59am. This has been successful for a few days time instead of daily.

That was short lived. I am back to daily reboots

I also posted in the Shareport forum as well, same issue here. 825, sees the HP 1012 but will not connect. If the router is rebooted, it will work for a short time. Would also like to see the auto disconnect feature actually work, but one thing at a time I guess. Was on the phone with D-Link Canada for about an hour or so trying different stuff, one tech had me load the wrong client. Anyway expecting a L3 call in the next day or so. If anything comes up that is not posted, like some secret firmware voodoo magic, I will post and update.

So this has been a known (and prevalent) problem for months, yet D-Link has not addressed it.

Awesome.

The ONLY reason I bought this router over others was to be able to use is as a wi-fi printer port.  Fantastic that it no longer functions as such.

Unbelievable, D-Link.

I wish I would have read these forums before I purchased the 825.  I bought this router over a Linksys 610N because of the print sharing functionality.  Now I find it doesn't work with the latest firmware.  Apparently it used to work in previously revisions, but unfortunately the router can't be downgraded.

I am tolerant of software/firmware issues - I'm a developer by trade.  But this issue centers on one of the core selling points of this router.  I think what's most aggravating is that no DLink rep has posted on this issue.  On such a more critical bug, I would think that a DLink rep would take the time to assure us that a solution is being investigated.

DLink?  Are you listening?  What's the status on this issue?
