I've been on DSL for the past 16 years. My current DSL is 25mbps down. Tomorrow I am switching to a 50mbps cable thru Xfinity.

What change will be necessary in my router? Will I need to do a reset on it before? Any tips to getting this up and running with minimal drama?

Just chance the Internet Connection Type from PPPoE if you were using it on the router to DHCP is all. Nothing else is needed. Hope your Cable ISP will get you a stand alone modem. Ask if you can use a Motorola SB 6141 modem or similar.

Thanks for the info. I assumed switching out of PPPoE would be all, but just wanted to confirm. So that's really the only thing to change?



From what I've been reading about Xfinity, they install a gateway modem (sigh). It can be bridged, but only remotely by the ISP, and most of there reps don't have any clue (bigger sigh). I took tomorrow off from work planning on dealing with this, and am prepared to go buy a cable modem (to replace their gateway modem) if I have to.

Install done, modem bridged, DGL-4500 working like a champ.

Speedtest is showing higher than advertised via wired connection, and lower via wifi- but the lower amount is still nearly double what I was getting with DSL. However, I know I am not testing during peak right now. Will be interesting to see what my results will be during peak hours
