Hi all,

Last night I flashed the firmware on my DIR-655 to version 1.31NA. Since then, I have not been able to connect my wireless Canon MP620 printer to the router.

I have tried both the PBC and PIN method. Here's an extract of the router log after an unsuccessful PBC attempt: ( I changed the printer MAC address to xxxxx15 )

I have no problems connecting my wireless laptop to the router or surfing through to the internet. I have no problems connecting my wireless desktop to the router. As I mentioned, I had no problems with the printer before I did the firmware upgrade.

I can't seem to find an explanation for the errors shown. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

I should have added that the hardware version is A4.

Hi all,

A response from D-Link:

You may have the Wi-Fi Protected service still enabled on the router. Your device may be trying to authenicate with this service and fails. To disable the service:

- Log into the router and click on the Advanced tab.
- Click on the WIFI-Protected SetuP on the left.
- Uncheck the Enable box, and click on Save Settings

Once the page reloads, try the wireless connection again and you should be able to connect successfully.

I followed the instructions, but the button I need "Add Wireless Device with WPS" is greyed out? Any ideas on how to add the wireless printer?

To wrap this thread up, a friend had a DIR-655 router with the 1.21 firmware and we installed it at my house. My wireless printer immediately saw it and we had a test page printed out in a few minutes.

I believe there is a problem with wireless printers ( specifically the Canon MP620 ) and the 1.31NA firmware.

So now I have to wait until D-LINK fixes this problem with a new firmware update, provides a workaround or I spend money on a Linksys. In the meantime, I have one more brick in my house.

Did you try the Manual setup to see if that solved your problem before declaring that the router was a brick?  It's actually a very easy procedure and I personally always use it over any other method.

The MP620 does not easily allow for manual configuration. I'd have use a USB connection or ethernet to do the configuration and then test it with wireless. Too much of a PITA.

Hopefully, D-Link can just fix the problem quickly.

I think you're blaming D-Link for something that isn't their fault.  Considering the router with firmware version 1.31 works for other things it's hard to believe the problem is with the router.  Wireless printers are quite often a PITA (as you put it) to set up and it's wore their fault than anything else.  Using a USB connection to do the initial setup of the printer is the only way to ensure everything will work correctly.

Very true!  Of course if you go to the Canon board im sure they blame everything on the printer!  It's kind of in nature of things that you only complain or using the problem is, you never question the issue anywhere else.

Actually it's pretty simple. The printer worked flawlessly in 1.21 and it doesn't work in 1.31 without what I consider to be major hoop jumping ( errr...maybe it will work )

I have the same problem with my Aluratek Internet Alarm Clock. It was using WPA2 fine with firmware 1.21. As soon as I "upgraded" to 1.31 it quit working. I've tried manual configuration, restoring the config from 1.21 and every combination of WPA/WPA2 and AES/TKIP, as well as various speed settings and wireless QOS settings. I finally got it to work using WEP. That's not acceptable to me long term.

It seems to me that D-Link made a subtle change in it's implementation of WPA/WPA2. Some client firmware is just more forgiving than others. Every other wireless client I have still works fine with WPA.
