DNS Relay type

Is the DNS Relay in the DIR-555 just a straight relay, or is it a caching relay?

Then it really does not help to use it, other than making it easier to setup machines on the LAN. It would actually be adding a small amount of latency to lookups since you would be passing the lookup to the 655 instead of doing it directly from the PC.  At least that is how I understand it.

That's my understanding too. Although in certain configurations is quite useful. But in a 8/10 situation it serves no specific purpose. Except for the added service of OpenDNS but this is only an automation of the manual DNS server entry.

And perhaps it adds a millisec, I have not measured any real difference in ping responses.
