Just got the 4500, but now the download speed is really slow.  It tested at 9.5 d and 5.5 up wired and wireless.  Wired connection through the sbg 6580 is 33 d and 5 up.

• What region are you located?

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

• Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
• Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
• Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
• Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
• Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
• Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
• Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
• Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

• Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
• WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
• Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.

• Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

3rd Party Security Software Configurations

• Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.
• Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Router Placement

Wireless Configurations

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something thats already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
• What wireless modes are you using?
• 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
• What wireless devices do you have connected?
• Any cordless house phones?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
• If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
• Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Sure your Modem is in bridged mode? To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

Set WAN port speed to 1000Mb.

It happens on both pc connected wired or wireless

I tried each setting on one at a time then with all at the same time with no change to the speed.
Time warner put the modem in bridged mode router ip starts with 65

Hmm...the only thing I can think of that impacts speedtest is Gamefuel and the UpLink speed. If disabled it should be getting full speed even when enabled you should get full speeds. Are you trying different speedtest.net servers? I notice some are busier than others or don't give good results.

Could try to enable GF and see if the automatic uplink detects anything. Manually set the connection to Cable.
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure.

Did you get this modem from TW or buy your own?

The modem came from Time Warner.  Tried several different servers all the results were all close to the same, with no change in speed.  I manually set the connect to cable and turned GF on. Automatic uplink shows 6020 kbps.  Checked and changed cable which had no affect on the speed.

Automatic uplink is working properly if it is showing 6020 or something close to 5000.

Are you downloading via a wired machine?  If you are wireless how many mbps are you getting?

You can always try a fresh flash of the 1.15 firmware. I used to have to do that periodically on mine.

The speed stays consistent at 9.5 d and 5.5 up on a wired or wireless connection.  It is 30 d and 5 up connected directly to the modem.

Reflash the firmware.  Backup your settings beforehand if you are worried about losing them.  But flash it and use the defaults and then run a test.

Flash firmware and ran test with defaults and my settings still no change in the speed.  Not sure if this matters, but the mac address that is printed on the router is different from the address that is in the status menu.  It is the last number set in the address. Printed on the router the last number is 79 in the settings it is 78.

There should be 3 MAC addresses, WAN, LAN and WiFi. LAN and WiFi should be the same I believe.

Did you factory reset, upload FW then factory reset once again then set up from scratch using IE or FF?

Where did you get this 4500 from?

I'm curious why your not getting speeds as others are. The only thing I can think of is that there could be an incompatibility between the ISP modem and the 4500. Any chance you have a neighbor, friend or family member near by with a different modem model that you could test the 4500 out on? Kind of need to verify the 4500 with a different ISP modem if possible before ruling out the 4500 could be bad. 

You could attempt this and see if speeds are any different:
Turning a router into an AP.
Unbridge the ISP modem and see what the speeds are while connected to the 4500 in this mode...

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

I flashed the FW tested then factory reset and tested again.  I got the router used for $30.  I can try it at a family members house, but not sure when I will be able to.  The LAN and WiFi mac addresses are the same in the status page but not the same on the router itself.

Hmm...possible the router could have been messed with specially if the MAC isn't the same as whats on the sticker ON the router.

Give the AP mode a try if you can while you figure out when you can test the router at a different location if you can.
