Where (What File / Register Entry) is DNS-325 User ID / Password Stored?

Per previous post, can't log into DNS-325 Web UI. Says wrong password. But I know it's correct. Is there a config file, or something of that nature (or a registry entry), where User ID and password are stored. I have a backup pre-dating my password problem, and could restore that old file if I knew what, and where, such a file (or entry) is.

I looked at the file /etc/passwd but the actual password doesnt' seem to be in that file however i see that when i change the password a file called /etc/shadow changes and it contains password entries. might want to try that but save the existing file before you do. and i have to add that i am using funplug so not sure if that has anything that may change this.

Thank you BigDave240. Your're the only one helping me. But I can't find "shadow" or "passwd". I looked in the Program(86) directory. Dlink is there but neither of those files there or in any of the subfolders. Did a search on my entire hard drive. Didn't show up. Maybe they're hidden or otherwise not locatable. Can you give me a hint? I know the "etc\" is shortcut for a long path, but I don't know where to start. Don't know what "funplug" is, but why might that have something to do with this? Again, big thanks.

The passwd and users are stored on the server, not on your pc (I think it's windows from your message) computer. The server has linux as the OS. If you've never used linux, I'd suggest checking the manual how to reset the NAS to factory defaults. Don't use funplug or other low level stuff, unless It's not a problem if your data is lost. If you don't care for the data, than try. I don't think if the NAS can be bricked, or at least it is quite hard. In he worst case you have to format the HDD-s.

These are all good answers.  Didnt realize your level of expertise.  Linux uses different commands than you are used to in windows.  The directory /etc is on the server though so if you are not sure how to do it you would be better off not messing with it and try to find the reset in the manual.  Post back if you can't find it and we will try to figure it out.
