DIR-655 Connects to Xbox Wireless, but not Wired
« on: September 19, 2013, 06:49:23 PM »

I have an Xbox 360 connected to my computer thru a DIR-655.  There are no issues setting up thru wireless.  That's done, and everything works.  But the signal strength is not great, so I'm changing to a wired connection.  The exact same setup will NOT connect thru a wired connection.

I've been thru the forum, picked up a few things, unchecked "enable SPI", enabled UPnP.

Can someone please direct me to the setting or configuration change I need to make to get the wired connection to work?

Note the wired connection worked before with a different Xbox360.  The old Xbox appeared to fail, so I replaced it with a new one.  It previously worked for years.  There is either a setting I forgot about when I originally set it up, or maybe my original xbox was fine, and it was the DIR-655 that is failing?

Link>Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?

The factory reset of the DIR-655 has worked; I went from no connection to connected.  However, the connection speed has gone from "excellent" to "poor".  The Xbox diagnostic suggested I enable UPnP, it already was enabled so no help there, and I checked "enable multicast streaming" because I saw that suggested in another thread.

What other settings should I check to get my DIR-655 to Xbox 360 connection speed back to where I can stream HD video?

If you need more help, Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

Thanks for the "teamviewer" option, that may be handy to do.

After re-setting the router by sticking a paperclip in the back and holding, plus doing a few other things on the xbox side, I have my wired connection back up.  The xbox is now working.

However, my Kindle is not.  I can connect to my network, the kindle says it's "connected", signal strength is "excellent", however I can not connect to the internet.  So it appears the DIR-655 is allowing the kindle to connect, but then is blocking it from reaching the internet.

I've deleted my network connection on the kindle, and set everything up again.  Same results, connected to the network, can't connect to the internet.

Is there a router setting I should be checking to try and fix this?

Dis-regard last post; kindle now is working.  Didn't change anything, except to reboot the PC.  Not sure why that would affect the router.  I rebooted the router and the kindle several times already with no effect.  But it's working now.  Cross my fingers and see if it continues to work over time.
