Issue on Dyn DNS
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:29:53 PM »

I have beginning to seutp this router in EU.
I have some problems with the DYN DNS. I cannot set my provider that is no-ip.
The Router Menu accepts only dlinkdns od other preset providers.
How can I insert here my provider?
I have FW 1.01 of 12.04.13
Regards

There are only presets for these routers and no option to input custom DNS providers.

If your DNS service has known displayed DNS IP addresses to use for that service, you can manually input them under Setup/Internet/Manual then turn OFF DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.

Hi stebos,

I don't know how the user interface of the Dynamic DNS configuration of your D-Link box looks like (I even don't use a D-Link router any more), but may be it is possible to leave the combo box for selecting one of the predefined DynDNS providers empty and configure a kind of Update-URL in the Server Address: field?

For example I'm using FreeDNS as my DynDNS provider which is also not available among the predefined DynDNS providers within my router, and to make it work I have to use an Update-URL of the form

Code: [Select]
https://freedns.afraid.org/dynamic/update.php?{personal-ID}&address=<ipaddr>
where {personal-ID} has to be replaced by an individual Identifier for my address registration which I can see in my account settings on FreeDNS' web site and where the placeholder term <ipaddr> is automatically replaced by my router by the current IPv4 address it has been assigned to its WAN interface via IPCP/PPPoE (of course the router model must support this automatism, don't know if DIR-868L does).

How the Update-URL has to look like with No-IP look at you provider's web site, for example here.

Hi PacketTracer,

in the dlink fw there are no options. No custom. You can choice only of 4 predefined providers.
I decided to change to Wrt. In this case you have all providers ( also your FreeDns ) and a custom field for other providers adresses.

Just curious if you installed WRT on the 868L, which flavor did you install?
