Hi all,

I just connected a DIR-505 together with my DIR-635 using the same SSID.
Sometimes I get good signal and sometimes I get less signal.

Is it better to have diffrent SSID if the 505 is in repeter mode?
Is there anything I should do to get better signal in both devices?
Any known problem for this setup?

What is the distance between the 635 and 505?

• 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
• What wireless devices do you have connected?
• Any cordless house phones?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
• If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, HT 20/40 Co-exhistance and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
• Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

635 = Channel 10+6, h/w ver b3, firmware 2.34EU, Security mode WPA/WPA2 = Personal
505 = Channel 10+6, h/w ver A1, firmware 1.06, Security mode WPA mode Auto Cipher Type = TKIP/AES
Distance between around 13 meters.

Region Europe/ Sweden.

Around 5 WIFI routers in the area using same channels 10 and 6.
Wireless device, Laptops, IPAD and Iphones. Most Ipad and Iphone that have weak signal.
Yes, cordless house phone.
WMM is already enable.

You might try using chl 1 or 11 on the Main host router. If others are using 10 and 6, then try chl 1.

Also try shortening the distance between the 635 and 505. Maybe 10 meters?

What is the operating frequency of the house phone?

Try using WPA2 and AES only if you can as a test.

Frequency for the house phone is 1.88 - 1,90 Ghz

I tried new chanells for the 635 and it seems that the 505 use the same chanels when I change the 635 automatic.

Yes, if your using the 505 as a extender or repeater, it should use the same channels as the 635. This is good. I'm just hoping that we can get the 635 and 505 away from the more busier channel 6 and 10 since you said others were using those channels. Thats is bad.

Would it be a better choice to change the DIR-505 to a DAP-1360 ?

I would give chl 1 a try and shorten the distance between the two first to see if this helps any...

Is this in the same building? Is this a house?

One other suggestion if you need Wifi at the other end of the house being that there is this distance, you might want to either run a LAN wire cable from the 635 to where the 505 is and put it in AP mode, or check out D-Links power line products and use two of these intead of the LAN wire and this will carry LAN data traffic thru the house to the other end where the other power line unit will be. Then plug the 505 in to that in AP mode for WiFi.
