SMB network shares possible with DIR-850L router?

Does the DIR-850L router support serving SMB shares with the attached USB disk? I want to be able to access my shared files through the file system, since this will allow me to use Picasa and other applications on the network drive. The documentation does not mention this type of sharing and I would like to know if it is possible before I buy one.

I am in the United States.

I reviewed the link, and it looks like the 826 supports the smb functionality I want, but I want to know specifically if the 850L also supports it. Thanks for the help.

I don't have any experience with this model router, however I think the base code is the same across these models. However still hard to tell with out getting your hands on one.

I would recommend that you phone contact D-Link support, ask for level 2 or higher and check with them for immediate information.

Maybe someone on here who has one can answer this question. I have sent a PM to one user I know who I think has this model. Please be patient.

According to the D-Link technical support person I just talked to, this router does support SMB network sharing. You just enter \\ipaddress\ as the network name. I hope that actually does work.

I received the router in the mail yesterday. I tested it and the SMB sharing does work using \\ip_address\. This will really be nice for sharing photos throughout our house. Thanks for your help!

On a Mac (running Mavericks (Mac OS X 10.9)) you can "connect to a server" in the Finder, and specify     smb://192.168.0.1     and viola!!!    Up pops whatever is stuffed into the usb port.  Forward slashes.
I used the admin account.
