2.11 Revision B Firmware Problem Please Help
« on: October 12, 2013, 04:42:48 AM »

As a prerequisite I would like to say that I have followed all of the instructions posted on the forums in regards to the proper method of flashing firmware. This includes backing up my settings, restoring my router to factory, performing a firmware upgrade, performing a second factory restore and then manually setting up my router

I recently upgraded my USA Revision B router to the latest firmware. Shortly after doing so I noticed that my Internet speed would dramatically decrease over a series of days, to the point where I would get 1.5 Mb downstream while doing a speed test. I quickly realized that after rebooting the router my speed returned to normal (35 Mb down). However, I need to keep repeating this cycle every two or three days. I would like to ask the community if anyone else is experiencing this problem and if so what have you done as a remedy or solution to the issue? Currently the only thing I have been able to do is revert back to 2.10 firmware.

Thank you for taking the time to read my message and I appreciate any help that anyone may be able to provide

Link>Welcome!
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

I'm in Orlando on Brighthouse Networks. Connected by Ethernet cable Don't know the model of my modem but the problem is with the router because if I go back to older firmware the issue is gone or if I stay on 2.11 the issue goes away on reboot of the router but comes back 3 days later

We would need to verify ISP modem information so we can determine if this could be a ISP modem issue or a FW issue or something in between. I personally have v2.11 on my 655 and had run it for weeks with out seeing this behavior and no body else has reported this issue or similar problem...

What I do know is that I have a Ubee Modem\Router that handles my internet and digital phone. The modem has been put into bridge mode to bypass all router functions so it does not interfere with the DIR-655

UPDATE

My Ubee Modem\Router model number is DVW3201. Again the unit is already in bridge mode so that the router functions of the Ubee are completely disabled so it will not interfere with the DIR-655

Try rolling back two v2.03 and see if the problem still happens. It it does, I presume there could be a problem with the ISP service or modem.

I'm currently back on 2.10 and have no issues, other than the bugs in that firmware (dns, upnp etc)

I recommend that you phone contact DLink support and talk to someone about v2.11 and your situation. There could be a problem w FW and your particular ISP service and the modem. How old is this modem? You might ask the ISP to chk out a different mfr modem.

Only other suggestion would be to try this router out on a different ISP service and modem, say at a friends or families place as a test to see if the speed drop while using v2.11.

unfortunately, I don't have any friends or family with which I can do that. The strange thing is when on 2.11 it only slows down every 2 or 3 days but after a reboot it is fine for another 3 days. Very strange because I have never had this issue on any other FW

Understand and with out the ability to test with a different model modem, hard to tell what could be causing it.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

I'm open to it, I use teamviewer all the time. I just have to find somebody that would look at it for me. Would you?
