I have my DNS-323 setup with two separate standard volumes (Volume_1 and Volume_2). When I went to login to the Configuration today using the Easy Search Utility I accidentally clicked on the BitTorrent button. My nas rebooted and when I came back Volume_1 has disappeared and been replace by a bittorrent volume called BT (Volume_2 is still there).

If I access through Windows explorer it shows:

Volume_2
web_page

as folders with no Volume_1 there at all. The hard drive info in the web based configuration shows:

so it looks like the data is still there, but no way of viewing it through explorer. Is there anyway to get rid of BitTorrent (which I don't want) and getting Volume_1 back? Any help much appreciated.

You can map Volume_1 very easily through Windows:

Procedure:

• Right click on My Computer and select Map Network Drive
  
• For Drive, select an unused/unassigned letter from the list
  
• For Folder enter \\[DNS-323_IP_ADDRESS]\Volume_1, where [DNS-323_IP_ADDRESS] is the NAS IP address, e.g. 192.168.0.2
  
  

You should be able to remove the BitTorrent volume by opening My Computer and right clicking on the BitTorrent volume and selecting Disconnect.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. Just to clarify, I can access the device via ip in windows explorer (in this case \\192.168.1.95), however Volume_1 share doesn't exist anymore so I can't view \\192.168.1.95\Volume_1 and map it.

The folder bt doesn't contain the data that was in Volume_1 either or I'd just rename it. The shared folder bt which was created has complete, incomplete and torrents (all empty) subfolders in it and nothing else.

The issue is that the Easy Search utility seems to have deleted my Volume_1 from the nas completely.

The Easy Search Utility does not have the capacity to modify or delete anything from the DNS-323. The utility is a read/only application that simply detects the DNS-323's IP address and available volume(s) and then maps the appropriate directories to the client PC.

The web UI STATUS information that you posted clearly indicates that Volume_1 exists. What error, if any, do you encounter when you try to map \\192.168.1.95\Volume_1?

Are you 100% sure the DNS-323 is located at that IP address? Can you validate the location by logging into your router web UI and look at the connected device table? Perhaps the IP address changed.

I'm just running a scan disk to check for any possible errors. The ip was correct as I could access volume 2 using that ip address as well as getting to the root of the nas using it.

Ok the scan disk on volume 1 has completed with no errors shown:

When I start the Easy Search utility the only two volumes in the bottom available for mapping are Volume_2 and BT, Volume_1 is not shown.

I can access the root of the NAS via IP, along with access into Volume_2 and bt via ip at:

\\192.168.1.95
\\192.168.1.95\bt
\\192.168.1.95\Volume_2

In the root of the device in explorer Volume_1 no longer appears as a share, and I obviously cannot access using

\\192.168.1.95\Volume_1

which just shows the generic "Windows cannot access...  Check the spelling of hte name... etc" error

The web GUI shows both Volume_1 and Volume_2 as follows, with data:

Everything worked perfectly until I accidentally enabled BitTorrent, as soon as the NAS rebooted after that Volume_1 has been missing, so something must have become corrupted then. The drive is still physically there and containing data as can be seen from the web GUI, however neither explorer nor D-link's own easy search utility sees the volume as existing.

Is there any way of getting it back without having to rebuild the raid/reformat the drives?

What error, if any, do you encounter when you try to map \\192.168.1.95\Volume_1 from "My Computer" in Windows?

For good measure, I also recommend rebooting the DNS-323, router, and client PC. Then retry manually mapping through Windows (My computer > right click > Map network drive).

I have tried rebooting everything. In terms of the error when trying to map, it's the same as just trying to access it on the network i.e. it's just the generic error you get from windows if you try and access something which doesn't exist:

Windows cannot access \\192.168.1.95\Volume_1

Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try and identiry and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.


At the same time I can access \\192.168.1.95\Volume_2 fine, so the ip and path is fine.

I had same problem, but with RAID1. Logged into Configuration and did master reset. I was able to see my Volume_1 again!
