DNS-320 Rev A suddenly not recognizing drives
« on: November 06, 2013, 01:35:01 PM »

Hey,
after about 2 1/2 months of turning on my DNS-320 Rev A Device, I'm having troubles with it. The las time I turned it on and used it, it worked flawlessly, but suddenly as of today it won't recognize my harddrives(any of them) although I haven't used or changed anything on the device.
On the right side bar below Storage Statues it says "None Hard Drives.".
I opened it up and checked if the HDDs are installed correctly. I also checked of of them using an external usb3 hdd case under linux and the partions seemed ok(although I didn't mount them).
Any ideas what could have happened, or how to fix it? Or is my NAS finally dead? :(

Here is the log, but I couldn't find anything usefull:

Thx in advance.

Looking at the log file and comparing the last successful use with the latest it appears that the unit thinks there was a power failure somewhere between Sept22 and Nov 6.  If this is the case then it could explain your problem.

The next thing you should do is the 'reset to factory defaults'.  This will reset all your connections but not do anything to the data on the disks.  The fact you can read the disks means that they haven't died.

If this brings the disks back on line you will then need to setup all your network connections again just as you did when you got the unit.

If it doesn't bring them back then you will have to consider that the unit itself may be faulty.  If that is the case a replacement unit is called for and if you use your disks in it you will need a backup of your data because you will need to format the disks in the new unit.
